“Bond King” and DoubleLine Capital founder and CEO Jeffrey Gundlach is a Donald Trump fan who predicted the reality TV star’s 2016 presidential election victory a year in advance.
Gundlach is known for making audacious predictions (and there’s a big one coming later in this story about a certain 2016 candidate), but he said he just had a feeling Trump would win the highest office in the land. “The first time I publicly predicted Trump would win was in the Barron’s roundtable, which was the first Monday in January 2016,” Gundlach said in a recent interview with Intelligencer. “And Trump at that point was like 500-to-1 or something in the betting odds — but I was absolutely sure he was going to win. I went through the candidates and … people wanted the dishes to get broken, you know?”
Gundlach’s latest prediction also is a bit of a doozy: Trump is intentionally forcing an economic downturn in order to right the ship just ahead of the 2020 election and come out the hero. But, Gundlach added, it’s a very dangerous game.

If he truly thinks that Trump is engineering the downturn and that Clinton may make a comeback then he’s an idiot, and his prediction on Trump in 2016 was likely luck and not due to any analysis on his part.
So let me see ... whom has been talking smack, panic and doom and gloom about the economy these last three years?

The key to this prediction will be the July-September 2019 GDP number. If GDP growth is positive, then this prediction won’t happen.

If anyone is forcing a downturn it is CNBC which is beating the drum for an impending 2nd Great Depression descending on the US very very soon.
I disagree with Mr. Gundlach. His prediction confuses Candidate Trump with President Trump. Though a savvy and tenacious campaigner, Donald J. Trump is first and foremost President Trump. And he behaves as such.
President Trump always puts first the good of the people and country. He does things because they are right. And he trusts that results will speak for themselves.
Yes, President Trump is a master of timing. But he uses timing to succeed in reaching his objectives. Those objectives are concrete; Build a Wall, End Invasion of Illegal Aliens, Protect the Country, End the Red Chinese Trade War with our Victory, etc. He does not use the nation's economy for his or a party's benefit.
That's what Democrats do.
