Anyone considering this?
Yes from the Greco-Bactrian to the British Empire to the USSR to us. People will never learn!
China will have a direct route for Iranian oil. Hmmmm
Agree with the assessment in Post 14.
And Afghanistan shows we need a new Pres, Secretary of State, Sec Def and about top 4 layers of military leadership.
I heard it said that the Soviet Red Army was the only institution that the Soviet people had absolute faith in. Afghanistan destroyed the army’s institutional credibility and the Soviet Union fell shortly thereafter.
American institutional collapse has been broad and simultaneous.
Ever hear of the Opium Wars? Consider what happens to China when their contact with Afghanistan leads to direct contact with the world’s leading supplier of poppies and semi-refined opium. A Chinese empire fell due to the Western Opium trade. Heck, now there won’t even be a western middleman.
Revenge is a dish best served cold.
Don’t forget the commies in higher education and in the public schools.
Oh yeah, also the “religious left”.
What happened?
The sale of vodka went through the roof.
That’s pretty convoluted.
It was another decade. There was much more to it than a little war.
True. But I think it helped break them.
Plus, the way the question was asked, that was the first thing that came to my mind. Something I didn’t think would happen in my lifetime.
I hope that both Neoconservatism and Wokeness collapse.
Wokeness is the best term I can conceive for the Left’s ruling ideology. It’s not really Communism or Socialism, not in any classical Old Left sense. They’re no longer into class warfare. The modern Left openly hates the white working class. And they have many wealthy supporters in Big Tech, Big Finance, Big Media, Big Pharma, etc.
The modern Wokeness ideology is Anti-White, Anti-Christian, and Anti-Straight. With a strong disdain for the working class.
They and the Neocons are both part of the Globalist Establishment. I hope they collapse with Afghanistan.
Retired Navy SEAL calls for resignations of top Biden admin officials: ‘They’ve abjectly failed’!
Derrick Van Orden says Afghanistan crisis shows ‘broken’ national security system
Top officials are facing backlash after the Biden administration’s announcement to withdraw all U.S. troops from Afghanistan by Sept. 11 opened a path for the Taliban to take control of the country.
In an interview on “Fox & Friends,” retired Navy SEAL and Wisconsin congressional candidate Derrick Van Orden called on Biden’s top diplomatic advisers to resign, saying they failed in their duty to advise the president.
DERRICK VAN ORDEN: I did two tours in Afghanistan in 2003 and 2009, and, unfortunately, the Biden administration is redefining the word incompetence.
You’ve got Secretary Blinken and Secretary Austin. They need to tender their resignations right now.
The chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, Milley, he needs to go peel potatoes in the galley for about a month and then resign also.
These folks’ primary duty is to advise the president of the United States on diplomatic and military matters and they’ve abjectly failed that. The national security architecture of the United States of America is clearly broken right now.
And this is playing out in real time. People can’t pretend like this isn’t happening. We truly understand now that the emperor has no clothes. As a matter of fact, we don’t even know if he’s wearing clothes right now because he has disappeared from the public.
The president of the United States, in clearly the most dramatic foreign policy crisis in the United States in a very, very long time, probably since Sept. 11, 2001, has disappeared. Jen Psaki has taken the week off too. This is unacceptable.

Sad.
The US is now a failed state.
Don’t forget the Assistant Democrats
Van Orden tells it like it is.
This is a terrible tragedy for Afghanistan. But, the United States has to stop fighting Wars with one hand tied behind the back. The United States have to change the Rules of Engagement to a war fighting engagement rather than a police action which seems to be the case since even Korea. That’s not how you fight a war.
If China goes in there and cleans it up it’s because their Rules of Engagement allow them to be effective.
The Soviet Union underwent a “reorganization”. Putin is in charge of a KGB neo-Soviet state and most former Soviet Republics are puppet states of Putin.
Us on the other hand...
Not too long after 9/11, I heard an interview with Rocky Sickmann who had been a USMC embassy guard taken hostage in Tehran. In the interview he described how when the embassy compound had been breeched, state department officials were giving strict orders not to fire. Although he had gone on to a successful civilian career and his own family, he expressed regret that he and his fellow marines hadn't pulled triggers. He was certain it would have resulted in his death, but he felt the capitulation and failure to resist set a very bad precedent for the U.S. in dealing with the muslim world.
The withdrawal besides the parades where the afghans let them roll out and retreat. We should ask for them to give free passage and ice cream to all those making way to the airport to be evacd safely.
