Hearing Hank Williams made Bob Dylan start writing songs.
In Hanks recordings, Dylan, as a child, found "the archetype rules of poetic songwriting."
Will Hank the First ever get the only ever posthumous Nobel Prize he deserves?
That might make a lot more sense than extending the boundaries of the North Atlantic to Moscow's doorstep.
Well of course it is.
You never post anything else.
Who cares? Who wants to be in the company of Yasser Arafat? Or the Kenyan who accomplished nothing up to that point?
Compare Dylan’s Masters of War with William’s Alone and Forsaken.
It's true though, some people post the same thing over and over again. Not the ginchiest.
Hank Williams only lived 29 years, after years of alcohol and prescription drug abuse. In spite of his short life, Hank’s impact on songwriting and performing that kind of music still resonates today. Hank Williams Jr. is now 73, just had a birthday on May 26th. He too is an entertainer, but Jr. is also known as a longtime alcoholic. It has to be hard growing up with a famous name.
*** First off, he is more conservative than he is liberal. He is an example of the old quote (which has many variations and attributions): If you are not a radical at 18, you have no heart. If you are not conservative by 40, you have no brain.
*** Second - His professional persona was developed during the early 60's in the period between the beatniks of the village and the flower children of the late '60's. They were his base of fans. He remained quiet on many subjects so as to not alienate his fan base and lose money.
*** He once said one of his great joys was just to go and watch his son play little league baseball. The point being he loves his quiet times with his family.
*** Many of his songs are best, when performed by someone else. Two of my favorites:
-- I Want You -- Sophie B. Hawkins (love the organ work by Booker T on this version
It's all Over Now Baby Blue -- Them (Van Morrison on vocals)
*** Tangled Up in Blue is the most cathartic marriage break up album ever. And one of his best *** Dylan's penchant for plagiarism is a serios black mark on his career
Re; your last point of plagierism.
Now retired singer-composer Joni Mitchell has frequently and angrily
called Bob Dylan out on stealing material from other artists without giving them credit. It was kind of an ‘inside baseball’ remark, meaning only other musicians, producers or fervent devotees would have noticed or cared. She cared though!
Oh heck. You again.
You know you’ll never catch a man with an attitude like that.
Try being nice, brush your teeth and use a good deodorant.
Side bar on plagiarism: Bob Dylan sued Rod Stewart over Rod's song of the same title. No plagiarism was involved, as the songs are completely different, but both written as heartfelt tributes to their children
Rod chose not to fight the lawsuit, but instead offered a compromise: All royalties from his song would be donated to a charity of Dylan's choosing. The offer was accepted.
BTW -- Mitchell was horrible in that show.
“Hank Williams Was Bob Dylan’s Cultural Father”
WTF? I thought it was Woody Guthrie!
Chilling. Hank was the grandfather of American rock n roll. Robert Johnson was the Godfather.

Can definitely hear the influence, especially in the first few albums.
He deserves a Nobel Prize and Russia deserves to be China’s brothel.

Clean yourself up, girl.
Just because you're old doesn't mean you have to stink.
Ain't they got anyone to sponge you off in the old folks home?
