I doubt the veracity of these quotes.
I simply do not believe these quotes. LeMay? And Hap Arnold? No way.
More attempts by the left at revisionist history.
I most likely wouldn’t be alive if not for the Bomb - they were fixin’ to pull my dad from the victorious European campaign to invade Japan. Any idea how difficult that invasion would be? Remember Iwo Jima? Or virtually every other Pacific Island in WW2? Multiply it times 10 because it’s the homeland.
My bullshit meter pegged on this one!
NONSENSE!
After the 2nd bomb, Japan SURRENDERED!!!!
So I guess they worked.
From what I remember from my grandpas( Colonel US army, doctor) friends and history Hirohito and company didn’t even surrender after Hiroshima.
Kinda late now.
Also seem to remember Japan arming everyone on the island. They were ready to keep fighting like the samurai’s they were.
All liars. The Japanese themselves were thankful for the bomb to end the war. The crazy Emperor would have kept it going until everyone was killed. Thank God for the bomb.
Also:
“According to his pilot, General Douglas MacArthur, commander of US Army Forces Pacific, was “appalled and depressed by this Frankenstein monster.”
Maybe so? But wasn’t MacArthur asking to nuke Korea about seven years later?
Japan’s surrender without the Bomb was not predetermined. Even with it, there was a coup attempt to try to prevent the broadcast, with IIRC a firefight on the Imperial Palace grounds.
Also if IIRC, the US underestimated the defenses on Kyushu. American and Japanese casualties in Operation OLYMPIC would have been severe.
(Not to mention a Typhoon hit Okinawa about a month before the scheduled date of the Kyushu invasion. It did severe damage to the occupation forces. Had Okinawa been packed with troops for the invasion, casualties and damage would have been even more severe.)
This article is revisionist tripe.
I hope no one believes this absurd revisionism.
The emperor/god Hirohito noted in his surrender that the enemy has a new mysterious weapon necessitating surrender.
His commanders tried to stop the surrender.
The last war motto was 100 million for the emperor.
All civilians would have given their lives for the ongoing war.
Bullcrap to the war ending in two weeks without the bomb. They didn’t even surrender WITH the first bomb, and even after the second, it took Hirohito to break the stalemate in order to surrender.
Charming sentiment from the guy who wanted to bomb Viet Nam into the stone age, and darn near succeeded.
We should hate ourselves?
We should make reparations by dropping one on D.C., with deep apologies to Tokyo?
If Japan were truly that close to surrender, why did they fail to do so immediately after the first nuke?
Did these remorseful leaders compensate by leaking nuclear secrets to the Soviets?
Notice two all stars aren’t quoted, Patton and MacArthur. Truman saved American lives.
Horse Shit!
I love the argument that “Japan didn’t surrender because of the Bomb - they surrendered because the Soviets had just declared war and invaded Manchuria.” ??? Did the Soviets have the capability to mount an amphibious invasion of the home islands? Or the long-range bomber capability to do what our B-29’s had done? Or the Bomb? No, no, and no.
