It seems that at some point (like maybe when you discovered that you could barely GET off the couch anymore) you would take desperate measures to change the situation, even if only minimally. But then, who am I to judge? I haven't walked in her shoes gotten stuck in her couch. Okay, that was uncalled for.
Heinz Kerry charity assailed, defended
Local Republicans say the endowment controlled by Teresa Heinz Kerry once gave money to a group that helped Cuba hook up to the Internet. Democrats say the allegation is a lie.

Political dueling for Florida voters -- especially Cuban exiles -- erupted in Miami on Tuesday as charitable donations from Teresa Heinz Kerry's fortune came under fire by three local Republican members of Congress.
Among the trio's allegations: The endowment Heinz Kerry oversees may have indirectly helped the Cuban government link up to the Internet over a decade ago.
Angry local Democrats quickly denied the accusations and called them a ploy to link the wife of the party's presidential candidate to fringe groups, and worse, Castro's Cuba, a hot-button topic in Miami-Dade.
''This is incredible that the Bush campaign has stooped so low and talked these three Cuban congressional members into telling straight-out lies,'' said Hialeah Mayor Raul Martinez, who is helping the Kerry campaign in Florida.
The Heinz Endowments, two foundations with combined assets of more than $1 billion, have donated $8 million to the Tides Foundation and Center since 1994, but said the money went to projects in Pennsylvania.
THREE LAWMAKERS
In a press conference at the Inter-Continental hotel in Doral, Lincoln and Mario Diaz-Balart, along with with Ileana Ros-Lehtinen, all of Miami-Dade, detailed how the Tides Foundation ''services or funds radical and anti-American groups,'' including Cuba's Interests Section.
Tides money, they said, helped Castro's Cuba by donating funds to the Institute for Global Communications, whose Canadian affiliate in 1991 used an undersea cable link from Havana to Sprint in the United States -- connecting Cuba to the Internet.
''They linked the Cuba government to the rest of the world,'' Lincoln-Diaz Balart said.
The Heinz Endowments and the Tides group denounced the accusation.
''Claims that money from the Heinz Endowments granted to Tides Foundation or Tides Center projects has gone to support Internet connection to Cuba -- or any other project or organization related to Cuba -- are entirely false,'' Christopher Herrera, spokesman for the Tides Foundation, said in a press release.
MONEY EARMARKED
Heinz money is earmarked for environmental and community-related projects led by the Tides Center of Western Pennsylvania -- and nothing else, they said.
The John Kerry campaign called the accusation ''lies'' and said the congressional members had ``embarrassed themselves.''
Herrera said Tides Foundation gave $12,700 to the Institute of Global Communication, but said the transaction had nothing to do with Heinz donations.
The Republican congressional members conceded the Heinz Kerry fortune may give money to Tides only for a specific project, but said the donations show overall support for the Tides organization.
''When you give money to such an organization, it's because you sympathize with their work,'' Mario Diaz-Balart said. ``If not, where is her outrage now that she knows?''
