It's clear that the State Department, not the military is running things over there now.
Great tagline.
Take some time and learn how the forum works. You won't be disappointed.
Welcome to Free Republic! One thing this thread is doing is allowing us to get to know you.
Don't be too concerned about bandwidth or as you call it, disk space. FR gets lots of articles, vanities and threads posted to it hourly.
In the future and after you've become comfortable here, you might consider helping to defray costs by donating a few bucks (doesn't have to be much). Please don't take me wrong, I'm not trying to hit you up for an immediate donation. Heck, it took me 2 years before I started donating and now I donate a set monthly amount. It took me a little while to determine FR was worth some of my money. That was after I realized I was relying on FReepers from all over the world to provide me with news and information I couldn't get anywhere else.
It's been a while since I've heard grok. My favorite book when I was in high school! I really should go back and read it now as an adult.
Relax. You haven't been around here all that long, but you will see that the moderators do a pretty dang good job. Duplicate threads get removed commonly - to preserve bandwidth. The recent influx of new FReepers has made bandwidth a precious commodity, as well.
At any rate, please feel welcome and don't sweat negative comments. Reply with reason and not emotion, and you'll find that FReeping is "a salve that heals all wounds" for the conservative soul.
Your not getting out that easy.
All vanities that question the Mods are fair game.
But "seriesly" Welcome to FR and have fun.

Hi freedom loving people. Two Items: bandwidth ; me
Bandwidth: I use that term because everytime you post something, send a article etc., the system creates files to store that information. Now, the term "bandwidth" in technical terms (electronics, communications) refers to the amount of data that can be sent in a given transmission. For example. The number of 8 bit bytes that will be sent or received between to computers per second. This is a very loose definition. This is what bandwidth refers to in digital communications. In electronic terms it means something entirely different. I leave it go at that.
So as you can see, my terminology is correct. I was speaking about the space storge requirements for everything that gets sent to the freepublic servers. Not the means nor time requirments involved in the transmission of the data.
OK who is Marine_Uncle? duh..........wish I knew...
1966-1979 Worked at Westinghouse AeroSpace/Defense division in Balt,MD. Had the distinct honor of working on the first two ECM pods --declasified years back--- called "Reno and Mongoose". These ECM (Electronic Counter Measures) pods sent out "false radar signals" on the same frequencies as the Russian SAM (surface to air) Radar systems that controled the missiles. Reason for doing this? To fool enemy radar from being able to track our aircraft. Result. Save our pilots and aviators from being knocked down by NVAM SAM missles. Senator McCain got shot down before we put these ECM pods into production.
Also worked on other programs I cannot mention during the actual NAM years. Afterward, worked on the original Harpoon Cruise missile system (the onboard computer), and the F16 Radar Fire Control computer system. I saw F16's sitting in our hangar before most folks new what a F16 was.
After leaving Westinghouse, had an offer from Bell Labs, I left Maryland for PA. 1979-1994 (got fired for doing extremly good work).
While at AT&T Bell Labs, fullfilled life time dreams of designing Integrated Circuits....we designed leading edge technology and gave much free tech info to the world because AT&T up to 1984 was a public trust. So we could not retain a lot of advanced research knowledge as other companies could. After a six year stint working on advanced Poly Cell designed IC's, where we where the first in the world to create libaries of specialized logic units, then created the CAD (computer Aid Design Tools) to assemble, simulate the circuitry as to how it functions, etc., got deeply involved with the UNIX Operating System.
Became what is now known as System Adminstrator on very large networked groups of various type computer systems,
etc.. Became involved in creating sophisticated Relational Database for various groups that required access by hundreds of people world wide to access engineering type databases etc.. In essence created quite a few million lines of code using C language, Informix Database Developement tools etc.. Lots of blessings and fun for many years!
Got canned in 1994, had health problems, ended up wired up in hospital, never have quite recovered as a result of trying to form a specialty Internet Service back when Linux was just making headway. Sort of worked 15-20 hours on a regular basis for about two years supporting myself....then after the hopes faded on this adventure, lost house do to not finding job for a number of reasons......relocated with family to survive. Tried once again to work with small computer firm to get back on track. Owner closed business due to flat econonmy, and moved to Borneo! So now I mostly
play first shooter games such as Medal of Honor and do carrier OPS (take of F18's from carrier based in Persian Gulf) while I pretend I am an aviator. Ah yea. Using Microsoft Flight Simulator. I download aircraft to the game and scratch build air bases etc., with add-on tools.
And for the past seven plus months have done extra time in the praying department for my nephew who has been in Iraq since March of this year. Yea he was in and out of the Fallujah mess amoung other things. He is on his way in a convoy as I write to debark out of Iraq into Kuwait to then fly back to our blessed shores (Camp Lejeune NC) in about about two weeks from now...........wheeeew it has been tough.
So dear Freeper's that is a snapshot into who this Marine_Uncle is. OH yea, back in about 1972 or so, found the book titled "None Dare Call It Conspiracy" by a Gary S.
doing his thesis on one world government. Well that started me on a search to find out who was who in politics etc.. I became a conservative early on. Became interested in learning more about history and religions as it applies to current world events etc..
Political beliefs: conservative that sometimes can lean a bit to right perhaps. Not sure. But one that believes we have a duty to take care of our own through well thought out and administered social programs, and realize we must maintain a very strong military to maintain our soverenty and interest world wide. Yes I waded through the 9/11 report document, etc..
Believe for some twenty years or so that Senator Kerry was a traitor not only to his fellows in arms but to the United States of America. He committed acts of treason as so many of us are painfully aware. Why is he not wondering around with a chain and ball on his leg at Leavenworth or resting quitely in the grave as a result of facing a firing squad per UMCJ and Constitution violations?
Family life:
Was married between 1971 and 1979. Have one lovely daugther. Still love my ex-wife. A good thing. Never got remarried since I had a bad habit of pounding out code and chips 7/24 for many years. Dumb me. I am what I would like to term first century Christian. Unfortunately I still like to smoke...........
So that is about it. Hope you all have a better understanding why I used the term disk space at this point.
take care all,
George
