I have NEVER been a fan of Jesse Jackson. But when he can get the biased liberal anti-Terri media - to report the words, Terri's starvation is "immoral" and an "injustice," -- as he did today -- then I have to thank him. I just called his office in the Chicago area; told them I have not been a supporter of his, but I thank him for standing up for Terri.

I agree. But as I posed to Rush today via email (who knows if he'll read it), how do you decide whether to lose on principle or play strategically for the outcome? When do the ends justify the means? I have heard Rush endorse both approaches and I would sure like to know on what criteria is that choice of approach judged?
Jesse needs to go talk to the Florida lawmakers who voted to kill Terri and others like her.
Maybe Jesse saw something wrong in that they were giving a so called vegetable morphine. Whatever his motives I applaud him for coming forward. I only wish he and other democrats would have done that when there was a chance to save Terri.
I remebember that for years when Clinton was president, all of the freepers would say "Look at what he does, not what he says." We all knew him for what he was. He didn't fool us. Now I stand at a point where people who I stood in the cold to get elected, made calls, sent money to their election or reelection campaigns who spoke eloquently on issues of life, now they stand silent after a tepid attempt to beg the Federal Court to allow a reexamination of the facts. They said subpoena Terri Shiavo and Michael Shiavo or contempt of congress citations would be issued. A district court judge backed them all down. He did not blink. President Bush, Gov. Bush, the republican congress all blinked and now I finally see what I should have seen all of these years. I need to "Look at what they do, not what they say"....just the same as Clinton. Nothing they have done in this case differentiates them from Clinton.
This was, at long last, an opportunity to do the right thing, and if necessary, suffer the slings and arrows of an out-of-control judiciary. If the culture of death brings further reprisal, so be it. It will have been the right thing to do. This is the clash of these cultures in a great battle. The advocates of death seem to have the numbers, but the culture of life has the truth and is right. To settle for the opinion of one man is beyond tyrany. It is monstrous in its precident setting ruling. It will only become that much more difficult to stand up the next time this happens. I hate to say this but President Bush gave lipservice and Jesse Jackson, though he had nothing to loose, at lets stood up and tried to use what influence he had to save a life. Bush should be asked to do no less.
I will not be calling Jesse Jackson to thank him (and thereby encouraging him to continue to "mug" for publicity) for interjecting himself into the Schiavo case. Below is an excerpt from a National Review Online column dated 3/28/05 by Jay Nordlinger:
In his New York Sun column, John P. Avlon quoted the Rev. Jesse Jackson, preaching/speechifying in the Riverside Church. "Whose god is God?" said Jackson. "There is a profound theological debate in our nation tonight about the nature and character of God. . . . Today the Congress reconvenes to save a woman — Terri Schiavo — from starving to death, but then votes to starve millions every day. Whose god is God? They fight to save the fetus, and then starve the babies. Whose god is God?"
Reported Avlon, "Enthusiastic applause rolled through the pews . . ." No doubt, no doubt.
Jackson further said, "There is a fascist attack on civil rights and civil liberties. We cannot be silent."
Jesse Jackson is too late to the table to be believed. He is a wolf in sheep's clothing and will get no thanks from me. As for the Schindlers, who can blame them for accepting help from whomever they think might help save their daughter? Certainly not me. It is, however, shameful on "Reverend" Jackson's part.

If he felt all he said with sincerity, he would have been there several days ago before she reached this desperate level of starvation & dehydration. This is an empty gesture, and one for himself...as ALL his actions have been over the years.
yep, and I agree w/Sean's take on this: whoever it takes, take at face value, assume competence and let 'er rip. (Well, he didn't really say ALL that, but that's the idea.) That also goes for Lanny Davis, Ralph Nader, and anyone else who comes to understand the depth and the depravity of this issue.

He did exactly that. He is trying to get some members of the florida senate black caucus to change their vote in the bill that failed last week, but a new vote could lead to saving terri's life

Jesse Jackson doesn't have a moral bone in his body. That anyone would fall for his act is astounding.
I've reviled Jesse Jackson as much as anybody, and probably more than most. But when someone does the right thing, no matter what the motives, I'm ready to applaud their doing the right thing. I'm also calling Jackson's organization to say thanks.

Blacks may have a lot of interest in this outcome. In general, blacks enter the end of life earlier. Blacks are generally poorer and can't fight for life, as well as the general population, when in last stages.. So maybe it will sink in.....
Good idea,whatever his motives for getting involved,atleast he is. Better than sitting on the side lines,wringing your hands and saying I have done everything I can.

What you say is true, but at this point if Jesse Jackson can influence votes to save Terri, I'm all for it.
