Posting Negative Threads About The Bush Administration and Getting Banned from FreeRepublic

Posted on 05/18/2005 4:25:34 PM PDT by theheebrewhammer

Is it true that if you say something negative about the Bush Administration on this website that you will get kicked off of it? Even if it is a legitimate posting?

Is the Bush Administration beyond reproach by the moderator of this website?

But don't let me know your opinion because you could get banned for it.

I actually like the Prez but I do have legitimate gripes about some of his decisions. I have just heard of people getting kicked off of FR for posting their gripes. I am not trying to get people kicked off.

Heeb out

Most posts (threads) are related to news articles. Vanities (like this one) are commonly pulled. Typically, folks will post a news article, and then add their comments regarding that article. From your last post on this thread, I get the feeling that your previous posts were either vanities or duplicates. Duplicates get pulled all the time. Methinks you're not a Zot-worthy troll :)

Anyone who bills himself/herself as "the Heeb" is probably a bigot. Anyone who makes a post this lame, which violates several of the rules that members of this Internet community abide by, is obviously either illiterate, or a fool.

I vote for fool as the answer, though I admit it is close.

Dear Heeb,

A long, long time ago I had a Jewish girlfriend. I affectionately called her "The Hebe," which she thought was cute. 'Twas during the days of All in the Family being a hit TV show, and Archie Bunker always used the term, so I didn't think anything of it and neither did she. However, after going home for a holiday, she returned to tell me that she had informed her family of my pet name for her and they were outraged. As a result, she was, too. I groveled, apologized, and never called her by that pet name again (until after she dumped me). Was I an insensitive boor? I am, after all, just a country boy.

troll

An electronic mail message, Usenet posting or other
(electronic) communication which is intentionally incorrect,
but not overtly controversial (compare flame bait), or the
act of sending such a message. Trolling aims to elicit an
emotional reaction from those with a hair-trigger on the reply
key. A really subtle troll makes some people lose their
minds.

troll

v.,n. 1. [From the Usenet group alt.folklore.urban] To
utter a posting on Usenet designed to attract predictable
responses or flames; or, the post itself. Derives from the phrase
"trolling for newbies" which in turn comes from mainstream
"trolling", a style of fishing in which one trails bait through a
likely spot hoping for a bite. The well-constructed troll is a post
that induces lots of newbies and flamers to make themselves look
even more clueless than they already do, while subtly conveying to
the more savvy and experienced that it is in fact a deliberate
troll. If you don't fall for the joke, you get to be in on it. See
also YHBT. 2. An individual who chronically trolls in sense 1;
regularly posts specious arguments, flames or personal attacks to a
newsgroup, discussion list, or in email for no other purpose than to
annoy someone or disrupt a discussion. Trolls are recognizable by
the fact that the have no real interest in learning about the topic
at hand - they simply want to utter flame bait. Like the ugly
creatures they are named after, they exhibit no redeeming
characteristics, and as such, they are recognized as a lower form of
life on the net, as in, "Oh, ignore him, he's just a troll." 3.
[Berkeley] Computer lab monitor. A popular campus job for CS
students. Duties include helping newbies and ensuring that lab
policies are followed. Probably so-called because it involves
lurking in dark cavelike corners.

Some people claim that the troll (sense 1) is properly a narrower
category than flame bait, that a troll is categorized by containing
some assertion that is wrong but not overtly controversial. See
also Troll-O-Meter.
