According to internet sources:
In the Christian calendar, Shrove Tuesday is the English name for the Tuesday before Ash Wednesday, which in turn marks the beginning of Lent. In many solidly Roman Catholic countries in Europe and the Americas, this is the last day of Carnival. In some historically Francophone places it is Mardi Gras, French for Fat Tuesday; the most famous Shrove Tuesday celebration is the Brazilian Carnival.
Also, something about pancakes.
Whatever.

During the Motorcycle rallies I go to, they do the same thing. Beads for peeps. I usually give my camera to my girlfriend and send her off for pictures of flashers. Women have so much more luck with that.

when we lived in michigan there were the most amazing donuts
made just for fat tuesday. they were so much better than you
average custard filled donut. they have a polish name
pronounced "punch- keys" but i have no idea of the correct
spelling. best things on the planet tho! we anticipated them
on fat tues all year.
