Have you tried to up your fiber intake. That helped me not feel so hungry.
Also, drink more water. It helps flush nasty out of your system.

I exercise But for me the key is actually the grocery store. If I don't buy it, I won't eat it! Stick to the periphery of the store. That way, you are buying fruits, veggies, fresh meats and fish and milk, eggs and cheese. It's those middle aisles of packaged goods that do me in.

Thanks for keeping this thread going, the diet reminders are always a good thing and help keep us motivated.

I'm currently snacking on a sliced cucumber, with a whole box of donuts sitting about 5 feet away. I need all the motivation I can get.

A few years ago I lost about 30 pounds at the insistence of my Cardiologist.I tried a combination of Atkins and brisk walking and the pounds just flew off of me,particularly the first 20 or so.

I was amazed by how easy Atkins was for me,a guy who once took carbs intravenously,to stick to.But then,my doctor did a good job of motivating me.

Then my hip went bad about a year ago and the weight I lost is back.

Talk about depressing!

The moral of the story? Atkins works when combined with regular exercise.

Yikes, thanks for the link to my caloric output. According to the link I find the following facts about me:

Resting (basal) metabolic rate: 1355 calories per day
Typical daily activities: 723 calories per day

Total calories burned: 2079 per day
Note: 3500 calories = 1 pound weight loss

If I want to cut 700 calories a day, it leaves me 1200 calories which isn't very darned many. Even if I cut (or expend) 700 a day it would take me 5 days to lose one pound....I give up already :-(

My method of losing weight has been to simply count calories, keep them a little below the required amount (by about 700), and exercise. For exercise, I walk and work out at the gym. While my calorie intake occasionally has me a little hungry, I am never ravenous, and it is not painful. My starting weight (at 6') was 285, my weight as of this morning was 234. I plan to get to 205, muscled up, then maintain.

That's close to what I've been doing. I'm down 53.5 lbs now since the end of September, my pants size has gone from a 44" waist to 38". I've had to drill 5 new holes in the belt that I bought in October. I've dropped from an XL size shirt to just L, from 17 1/2 to 16 in a dress shirt.

It was just so obvious but I never got busy and started getting healthy. Now I feel better all the time, sleep better, get sick FAR less often (barely at all), etc., etc., etc.

I never wanted to be a "health nut", but once you've tried it you want to tell other people how they can solve all the problems that they complain and complain and complain about by doing a few simple things to get healthy.

Now, my biggest problem is when I travel - and I travel alot. I can't seem to get myself all the way downstairs in the hotel to use the fitness room every single day. I do a few times, but not every day. Bad Spiff! Bad! And then I do tend to not eat quite right because I don't have access to the same food I eat at home and I am forced to eat out alot. I'm working on that. I tend to gain a little weight when I travel, but the odd thing is that I consistantly lose that weight the day after I get back. No, really. Both of my recent trips saw a weight gain of 2 to 3 lbs. The day after I got back, each trip, I dropped between 2.5 lbs in one 24 hour period and then lost the remainder the next day.

My wife and I are leaving tomorrow for a 4-day vacation in Acapulco - all expenses paid, all inclusive resort, etc. We're not going to be so careful about what we eat as we really want to enjoy ourselves as we've never been able to go on a vaction like this. However, we also plan to counter some of the fattening effects of the food we'll eat by hitting the fitness room at least once per day. Hopefully, we won't do too much damage to our diets over the period. And if we do, we'll just have to work it off over the next week or so.

Another observation. I don't even get tempted anymore to eat some foods. Often, people will bring in donuts. I used to eat one or two before I went on my diet. Now, they are literally nauseating to look at and smell. Someone tried to give me a chocolate cake the other day. They insisted I take it. I said I would give it to my kids. Just carrying the thing made me feel ill - looking at it and smelling it. I actually did talk myself into trying a Quarter Pounder with Cheese the other day after not having a burger since September. I was deeply disappointed. I used to love Quarter Pounders, but it was not good at all. Not like I remembered it. Now I have no desire to eat one ever again. By the way, the burger didn't hurt me. The scale told me I'd lost a half pound since the day before. It's all about tracking calories and keeping them consistantly below your matabolic level.

By the way, I forgot. Congrats! It looks like you've lost 51 lbs. Good job! How long have you been at it?

I started at 260 and I'm down to 206.5. My goal is 180 which is the top end of the "healthy weight" for a man who is 5'11" that I've seen on all the charts. I've gone from "severely overweight" to just "overweight" on those same charts. I've got 26.5 lbs to go. My weight loss has slowed down a little bit, especially with all my recent travel, but my weight is still consistantly going down.

Oh, and body fat content. I went from 34% to 26% in that same time period.

Laz, thank you for picking this up....I look forward to it since retrokitten started it. If I can help in anyway I'll certainly do it. I started a low fat and excersize diet on the 1st of Feb. I've only lost 11 lbs but I've dropped 2 pant sizes and look and feel a lit better. I still have an enormous amount to lose ( I gained 70# over the last few years) I have a herniated disk and am in menapause so it's SLOW moving. I'm giving myself a year to be where I want and I'm being patient with myself.

How's the running coming? I'm doing okay, but need to step it up a notch if I don't want to buy a swimsuit resembling a burqua this summer.

According to the weight charts... I should be seven foot four. I am not overweight, I'm undertall.
