And now the Dinklemeyer:

As far as the Dinklemeyer cartoon universe goes, this is the official turning point. The strip right here makes the transition from being a poignant look at a lonely boy (there is still more of that in the future though) to a goofy, funny cartoon. This also continues the “Pig Acceptance Story” in which the talking pig is pressing for acceptance in the Dinklemeyer household. How this ties in with that, we’ll see next time. And it is too funny.

Hey P. Gotta sit down to dinner...Hub and I are going to watch a movie (Charlie and the Chocolate Factory - Tim Burton). Have you seen it?

Be back in a couple hours.

Okay. I'll be off for a while, too.

I have seen it, and I even own it. It's very good.

Ohh!!

That looks like Cynthia McKinney! I didn't even realize it.

Coincidence. I didn't intend that to look like Cynthia McKinney, but if you want to interpret it has her, that's okay.

Hey P. I'm back for a 30 min. break. Hub...er...I mean Sergeant First Class Chrome Dome has to make some army-related calls, then it's back to the movie.

I would have made Cynthia McKinney a little scarier and a little less hot than that.

Still, maybe it was subconscious on my part.

You know, I thought it was her. Well, you can the cartoon (her) and fix her hair a bit and voila, you got Cynthia. LOL.

Well, it's all in the eye of the beholder. Maybe that's her on a better hair day?

Nevertheless, the point of the panel was to show that the Donkey has a bit of a womanizing/party addict side to him.

That's obvious. :-D

Yeah, in creating the Donkey, I wanted to establish him as a dislikable character (the guy we love to hate). He's kind of sleazy...sort of modeled after the John Laroquette character from "Night Court."

Not bad so far. Kooky, funny, weird. Like the original, not like the original. Very, very Tim Burton.

I agree with you.

It's more in the spirit of Roald Dahl's original book. The original movie was more of a bubbly candy-land fantasy. The book had a darker, weirder tone to it that this one holds up to.

Ummmm... Oh! I didn't even know there was a book! :P

This movie does seem darker. Thought that was Tim's doing.

Yeah. Roald Dahl (one of the great child book authors) has been dead a long time. But he wrote the original book. He hated the first movie.

I'm sure he would have a better appreciation of the new one.
