Later in the day, the three women who said they'd come across the purplish flotsam a few weeks ago showed off a second snapshot of it on a digital camera.

"It exists," Rachel Goldberg, Courtney Fruin and Jenna Hewitt asserted on local cable channel Plum TV, denying suspicions that they'd Photoshopped a picture of a dead dog.

Well this definitely shows it's not a beak for all those who insisted it was...

I still can't figure out what it is. The thing that throws me is the lack of upper incisors, like a ruminant (I kept saying ungulate yesterday and for that I apologize). But that there appear to be canines like any number of animal families (things like Raccoons, felines, canines, pigs even, etc.)

I look at pig skulls and see far too much tooth development in the top to match the photos. BUT I cannot find pictues of immature swine skulls (of any breed/species).

And ARE there canines or even broken canines hidden under what flesh is still there? I dunno.

I look at the feet and am not sure I can see enough to judge whether the animal once had hooves. Decomposition or a few medical issues can cause the hooves to fall off. But I am unfamiliar with what the tissue underneath would look like at that point.

So they have the animal. Why can’t the scientists who are so dismissive about it, do a DNA test on it?

The scientists just want to look at a picture and dismiss it. They have the dang animal!! Go look at it “experts”!

I know a guy who caught someone dropping off 5 raccoon carcasses in the alley behind a local Chinese Take-out.

Just thought I’d throw that in there.

Looks like a dog, with the nose and turbinate structures behind it missing.

The thinner flesh around the mouth is missing, exposing the lower and upper jaw bones.

I found a dog skeleton in the desert near Holser Canyon (Where Steel Challenge is), and the entire “nose structure” was missing from the Jacobsens’ Organ pits up almost to between the orbits, though the rest of the skull looked intact. Sort of similar, but mine had been baked in the sun, rather than soaked in salt water.

This poor creature, is the tragic end of the first welfare recipient, after a lifetime of Government handouts.

Speculation immediately arose that it might be a hitherto unknown marine mammal, a sea turtle without its shell, an artful Photoshop creation or — cue the “ X-Files” theme — an escaped experiment from the government animal-disease research facility on Plum Island, just offshore from Montauk. ....................... Sounds like someone was reading the comments on FR?

I don’t know about the mysterious creature but there’s certainly no mystery that Plum’s Nick Leighton is very GAY!

Since sea turtles spines are attached to their shell, I tend to lean towards the escaped experiment. :oP

It’s difficult to tell because the body likely is bloated, fur of course gone, and we have no frame of reference for size. My guess is a rabbit.

Oh I take that back, hadn’t seen the photo at Fox, only the lousy video with the gay guy. The other poster is right, it’s a dog.

I agree it looks like any number of mammalian skulls with the soft nose tissue missing. But what about the upper teeth? The only things I can think of with no upper teeth are most ruminants. And those, I can’t think of one that has lower canines.

I can think of a few that have long upper canines such as musk deer and chinese water deer.
