Vanity: I bought my Glock 19 today, and I simply wanted to say thank you!

I know I posted a thread a few days ago about a handgun (below), and my interest in a Glock 19, and I sought your thoughts and comments.

Knowing I tried it before I bought it!

http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-chat/2103527/posts

Well I did my research and I went and bought the G19! That's a freakin' awesome handgun!

I took my Dad and he fired it too! And he was amazed by it (He owns a 1911 and I know that's no comparison, I know that).

I just wanted to say thanks for all of your comments! I tried a Sig and some others, but I'm sticking with what I bought! That's a freakin' awesome handgun!

So thank you all! Now I need to get me a great rifle!

Does anyone have any thoughts on Armalite (AR-10)or S&W M&P?

Many thanks to all that replied. One more question: I want to buy 2 more guns, but could not afford yet to buy 2 real nice ones; so I need to buy one middle of the road gun, and another cheap, but somehow reliable one.

10 round magazines +1 chambered. Since it’s mil/LE Spec it will fire without the magazine.

Pick up a copy of Shotgun News and do some comaprison shopping. You can order in bulk and get better deals than any gun store.

In shotguns, the Mossberg 500 or 590 shotgun will fit that bill perfectly. The 500 is lower priced than the 590, but is just as reliable... The 590 is more of a "mil-spec" shotgun, but doesn't kill a bad guy any quicker than the 500.

You get what you pay for.

ESPECIALLY with firearms.

Mossberg P500 pistol-grip 12 gauge shotgun.

Excellent home defense weapon.

If you have a little more cash, I’d go with the Remington 870 instead.

The sound of that slide being racked is enough to make anyone who isn’t either mentally disturbed or on drugs turn tail and run.

:-)

If you’re talking handguns it gets a little more complicated.

And the rule about “rent one at the range and try it out before you buy one” applies to shotguns, too.

You stand corrected. The 19 will hold a 15 rounder.

Gives me the warm fuzzies feeling those extra rounds.

I have had my Glock 19 for about 18 years now and love it. I also have a Stainless 92F and a real curious relic, an HK VP70Z wow what a brick! and it’s trigger pull is like starting a lawnmower.

If you're looking at AR rifles, I strongly recommend you check out the Rock River brand.

Excellent quality, reasonable prices.

The Armalite AR-10 is an okay weapon, but their quality is not (IMO) what it used to be several years ago. The two brothers that own Rock River Arms used to work for Armalite, and attempted to get them to make some changes in quality control. Armalite wouldn't go for it, so they left the company and started their own. Rock River is now known as one of the best quality AR rifles on the market.

The S&W M&P15 is a good weapon so far as I can tell, but I have not had as much exposure to them in the classes I teach as I have had with Colt, Bushmaster, Rock River, etc. It is my understanding, though, that S&W is not actually manufacturing the weapon - it is being manufactured for them and stamped with their name. Not that this would make a difference in quality...

This is similar to Wilson Combat's situation when they first entered the AR market - all of their lower receivers where made by Rock River Arms (and possibly still are, with the receiver being stamped Wilson Combat). I do know that Wilson manufactures the barrels for the Rock River Arms Predator and Varmint rifles, and that they are air-gauged. Perhaps there is a mutually beneficial contract where each company supplies certain parts to the other?

I went by the PX yesterday and talked to the clerk at the gun counter. He said business is up almost 50% in the past 4 or 5 months. He also told me they have already heard that if Obama is elected gun sales there end.

The NRA High Power folks followed the ABC’s. First Armalite, then Bushmaster, lastly Colt.

I’m an Armalite fan but the last AR I bought has a Bushmaster lower with an Armalite upper.

My son has an Armalite AR-10. He’s a reloader as I am but I don’t think learning to shoot .308’s is such a good idea for a beginner. You can buy .223 ammo and magazines by the bucketful so I suggest you start with that.

If you need a 9mm carbine, you can always buy an upper for the AR-15 which you can’t with the AR-10.

That was probably the only thing I forgot to buy, but my Dad has alot of ear plugs, so that shouldn’t be a problem, but thanks for the concern! You forget how loud a gun really is when you are away from them for awhile as I have been.
