I DID IT! PRAVDA IS DEAD!

Well, I actually did it. I finally killed PRAVDA! Big Brother is no more! In recent months, I have surfed my way gingerly through my cable news channels with a ready finger on the channel button of my remote control should I need to escape the sudden appearance of a James Begalia or "Senator" McKaskill or any one or another of the airhead Obama spokeswomen who were always brought on. Usually, of course, I would try to rely on FOX and eschew the aggravating sounds emanating from CNN or from Headline News. And MSNBC was, of course, anathema. The sight of Olbermann or Maddow for more than 3 seconds caused me instant nausea and a need to reach for my Zantac. But, even FOX was only reliable half the time. I managed to put up with its pontificating pundits until two days before the election. But, then, I couldn't take it any more. My television remained off all of Monday, all of Tuesday, and I brought my shattered nerves and my rising blood pressure to a friendly place: Free Republic. And last night, as I was sitting and watching an old re-run of Boston Legal, I suddenly realized that I had a powerful device in my hand. I had the ability to kill. I had a remote control, and I pushed the "Setup" button. I could control my life! BLAM!!! CNN, suddenly GONE! BLAM! MSNBC, with all speed, GONE! HEADLINE NEWS, as well, Gone! And FOX, yes, even FOX, now GONE! And for good measure I even risked being called a racist: BET, now utterly GONE! My cable lineup is clean. Movies, sitcoms, and a VCR in the ready. But, I feel like yelling from the rooftops, PRAVDA IS NO MORE! So, where will I get my news? I don't want to bury my head in the sand. Why, from friends, of course. Thanks guys! LONG LIVE FREE REPUBLIC!

Well done. I will do the same. I called my cable company today to ask if they could actually remove MSNBC from my line-up. (I knew what the answer would be, I just wanted to express how I felt).

If it ain't discussed on FR, it's not of great importance to me.

I know we're all blue in the face but this media is so corrupt it borders on being criminal.

Well, than you miss the start of 2012 campaign by dems. Today MSNBC was hitting Palin with everything they got - mostly that she is a big spender on clothes....

There is no Pravda in Izvestia, and there is no Izvestia in Pravda.

I didn’t miss it. You just told me. MSNBC has zero ratings. They are irrelevant.

Today Rush pointed out that these latest attacks on Palin have all been very personal. Not a word about her policies.

If we could on perform Vanity Control on FR, things might be a little more relevant.

All we’re getting now is vanities.

You might want to consider just calling up the cable company (or the sattelite in my case) and shut them off.

I did. They were flabbergasted! Could not get the rep off the phone. No cable? No sattelite? But, but, but, how will you, er, um, you know, watch stuff?

I won’t.

< / silence ..... >

Ah, sweet, sweet peace and quiet.

I just put on the Arabic soap operas.

They're hilarious. And I can't even understand much of what they're saying.

Oh...and some Arabic commercials are a stitch as well.

Well said. Since Election Night I haven’t watched a single minute of news. I’ve been on FR, watched movies, worked and spent time with family.

Good job.

Step one is, don’t allow these people access to your brain. The communications media have abused their privilege for way too long.

They think there is nothing you can do about it. They forget there are a hundred channels to choose from. I’d far rather watch, well, just about anything rather than listen to them jabbering on. And if Fox is marginally better than CNN, at some point the margin just isn’t worth it.

You'll get used to subtracting the hour. We live just on the other side of the time line, on slow time, as it's called. Over in the world of fast time, their cable boxes match real time.

At least central time is recognized. Mountain time didn't exist for some channels. We would have to add or subtract an hour depending on whether the channel feed was coming from the west coast or the central time zone. We often missed things we wanted to tape.

This is what makes DirectTV so great. You can CREATE your favorites channel and you don’t have to select ANY of these garbage channels. I don’t have any of the cable news channels selected. HEY, WHEN THE HECK IS FREE REPUBLIC GOING TO GO LIVE WITH FREE REPUBLIC TV NEWS????? JimRob, what’s going on, when you gonna do this?

Great.

Another guy that will be asking the rest of us what the media are saying because he doesn’t watch the news.

What ever happened to “know thine enemy”?

Excellent!

I didn't even have the urge to turn on FOX news last night. After reading their attacks on our leader Palin, I am very glad I didn't. I will be cancelling cable as soon as I get DSL set up.
