SOFIA, Bulgaria (AP) -- Archaeologists have unearthed an elaborately decorated 1,800-year-old chariot sheathed in bronze at an ancient Thracian tomb in southeastern Bulgaria, the head of the excavation said Friday.

"The lavishly ornamented four-wheel chariot dates back to the end of the second century A.D.," Veselin Ignatov told The Associated Press in a telephone interview from the site, near the southeastern village of Karanovo.

But he said archaeologists were struggling to keep up with looters, who often ransack ancient sites before the experts can get to them.

The bronze covered chariot, precursor to the Abrams Battle Tank. A four wheeler too!

And the Thracians had no written language? Hard to believe.

Road Warrior was filmed in OZ. With the Big 3 Auto Industry Gone, we will need a review of chariots and ways to motorize them, donchathink?

LOL.

The four wheel chariot, percurser to today’s Hummer, is believed to have been set on fire by ancient environmental wackos after the horses were freed by the Peta tribe of Bulgaria.

The wheels were shown to be apparently studded with Blingite, an adornment popular to imported guest workers from Africa.

I bet the Thracians would have loved to watch Mad Max, Thunderdome, Road warrior....

I guess the Thracian/OZ approach is used in Iraq as well, like this one:

The chariot concept seems to be still with us.

In Thracian times, a four weeled chariot would carry spear throwers and/or archers.Today we have MGs mounted, and big bumpers , HD suspensions: i.e. chariots.

Scott, you will have to check with Allegra on this, but I think some still have blingite on the wheels after all these years.

I wonder if the Thracian state required a drivers license in those days?

Thrace would likely require a medallion of their equine god around the drivers neck, after being tested.LOL.

Insurance and license all in one.
