Hair's to You, Mr. Secretary (Bill Richardson)
Albuquerque Journal ^ | November 23, 2008 | Leslie Linthicum

-SNIP-

Everything that happened in Chicago and Washington last week makes it look like Richardson's chances of getting the job he's been auditioning for his whole career are as dead as those turkeys in the Sarah Palin video.

It looks like President-elect Barack Obama is going with Hillary Clinton for the prestigious post of secretary of state, if she wants it.

It's a good pick, but a blow to the guy who played footsie with throwing his support to her, then ditched her, then campaigned his tail off for Obama wearing that big, black beard. It's a good pick, but a blow to the guy who played footsie with throwing his support to her, then ditched her, then campaigned his tail off for Obama wearing that big, black beard. He promptly shaved it off to look Cabinet-worthy when Obama had a lock on the election. But did he shave too late?

-SNIP-

Secretary of state: At the president's elbow. World travel. Magnificent dinners in sumptuous palaces. Secretary of commerce: Patents. The Census. And don't forget the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (wind advisories!). OK. It does have an $8 billion annual budget. He would replace Carlos Gutierrez (yes, I had to look that up, too), who, cue portentous music, wears a fetching moustache.

-SNIP-

The beard was neat and trim and said "relaxed" and "up yours" more than it said "dejected" or "loser." But could it be that the beard — the damn beard! — has locked Richardson into the dreaded facial hair slot in the Cabinet? Is it too unkind to mention here that Judas also sported facial hair — or has a cackling Hillary Clinton already made that point?

People seem to forget that Ron Brown made LOTS of money leading trade missions around the world.

... Judas also sported facial hair

So did Lincoln. Does that make Lincoln a Judas? Now, Bill Richardson is going to be out in the cold, dry, New Mexico air this January after the inauguration. He supported Obama instead of Hillary, and gets stabbed in the back for it.

If Obama/Emanuel don't want Richardson, then it may say something for the man. Sorry New Mexico, would you like Barbara Boxer or Heny "Nostrils" Waxman instead?

So far, is there only one black in the proposed cabinet? Bush had more diversity than BO, so far.

I know its off the topic, but i went to a UNM Lobo game last night. Some cops were discussing how Richardson had been there for a recent game, a night or two ago. They said he was downright belligerent to his police security detail. Then of course, put on the happy face to walk out in public.

Why are these stories almost always democrat?
Hillary,,with her demands that police and military stay at least 20 feet away from her, not wear uniforms, etc.

When you speak to cops about repubs, they always have stories of kindness. Reagan staying home on thanksgiving to maximize the number of secret service that can be off, but the Clintons head out separately for photo ops, serving ar different homeless kitchens.
Sarah Palin being genuinely kind and mom-like to her cop escorts.

There are always exceptions,, but the repubs do seem to at least be able to be kind to the little guy, and dems not only cant be kind, they need to be actively rude.

Just an observation.

Rude to street cops,, but he can sure be buddy buddy with those damned North Koreans. Odd how they love him so much. Maybe its that both are cold mountainous desert hermit kingdoms, run by a totalitarian party.

Fat Billy’s appearance is typical of the immigrants that I wrote bail bonds on for years.

Is it just me or were you a little surprised that the Journal ran something like this on the King? They’re usually firmly in his corner...or maybe I’m taking it wrong.

I do think there might have been a nice ambassador post in N. Korea if they looked hard enough... *grin*

It’s been a while since I’ve had an opportunity to remind people that Henry Waxman is the only politician with his own emoticon:
