I saw my son for the first time today. Grainy images...a quick blur... was that a foot?
My wife will be at 20 weeks on Saturday. We've been anxiously awaiting this day. Would it be a boy or a girl? My wife wanted a girl. She was hoping for frilly pink dresses and all the "girly-girl" stuff that goes along with it. I won't say that I was indefferent, but the gender did not matter. I wanted a healthy child. I could think of great things about a boy or girl. I already had a daughter from my first marriage. She's thirteen now and filled with raging hormones. OK, the more I thought about it, a son would be nice.
We entered the exam room. The technician was very professional as she went about her business. "Here is the head. Look! The baby just opened its mouth!" That was our first sight of our son. We could see the outline of his face and his lips! His little mouth was opening and closing. Was that his hand? It was!
She went about her business, locating and identifying this part and that. Then she stops... "Yup! Its a boy!" As I sit there glued to the monitor, I realize that I have this big, goofy smile on my face. My cheeks are starting to hurt as I am smiling too hard!
The tech starts pointing out internal organs. "Here's the heart. This is a great view, you can see all four chambers." I'm watching in awe. There it is, his tiny little heart. Beating at 154 beats a minute, I can see it moving. I am amazed. Kim is just shy of 20 weeks (but the baby is about 18 weeks; they count from the last period, not from conception). This tiny baby is just 18 weeks from conception, yet there is a beating heart. A stomach... there's the bladder...and kidneys...and there....yup, he's definitely a boy!
I remember sitting in the doctor's office back in the end of September and hearing that heart beat for the first time. Now, I sit in amazement, spellbound by the image of that tiny beating heart.
We walked in that room with so many questions. Will it be a boy or girl? Will everything be alright? Will it be healthy? As the tech continues to show us legs, feet, arms and tiny little wiggling fingers, those questions evolve... what will he be like? Will he want to play baseball? Will he be musical? Artistic?
We walked into that room filled with apprehension and left it filled with wonder and awe, and most of all, hope.
Congrates!
Never mind boy or girl just make sure it’s a Conservative LOL!
Congratulations! You have the first entry in your photo album. May he grow big, strong, and smart as he will have an awful lot of people to carry on his back as he enters the workforce.
K = kids.
Thank you for sharing something so beautiful in this crazy mixed up world of ours..... ;)
It was wonderful to be able to share in your happiness and we look forward to photos of your fortunate son when he arrives!
Happy Thanksgiving..sw
As the years go by, you will also find the awesome realization that the strapping young man standing before you going on his first date, driving for the first time, making you drop a tear of pride for an award ceremony he attends was once a little bundle of nothing born of your flesh.
Cherish the early years, they go bye very fast
CONGRATS!...he could be President
CONGRATULATIONS!!!
Thank you for that, when they are seven or eight we forget how special they were at that time.
Eat out a lot and sleep as much as you can now. Really. No joke.
Seeing that image pop up on the screen changes your life and your thinking forever. By now, I assume, your wife is just delighted she will have a little boy. Funny how that works.
We had ultrasound some 28 years ago with our first ... the technology was nowhere near where it is today, but the moment is forever etched in my memory (to quote a not so great man).
Wishing all the best for all of you.
Awesome
share away pal! Congratulations and god bless you and your family. You’re a lucky man!
Thanks for sharing that wonderful story.
Make that'God bless you and your family'...
CONGRATS! Looks like a cute little feller already. :-)
Congrats, RB!
Better start thinking it over now, because it'll be with the little guy for the rest of his life. No, not his name, his FR nick...
Congratulations to you and the Mama...
