2 killed in shootings on Dallas, Garland roads
DMN ^ | 12-22-08 | SCOTT GOLDSTEIN and JASON TRAHAN

Two drivers were shot dead and third injured on roads in northeast Dallas and Garland during Monday’s evening rush hour.

Police were investigating four incidents Monday after the first shooting was reported about 5:40 p.m. in Garland on LBJ Freeway near Plano Road. Police are working to establish whether three of the shootings in Dallas are related to a Garland shooting that was the first reported fatality.

“For whatever reason, this person is upset with something or someone and he’s taking it out on innocent victims going down the road and that’s very scary,” said Dallas police Sgt. Gil Cerda.

The first victim was a man driving a small two-door car on Jupiter Road, police said. He stopped at a red light at Marquis Drive and an extended cab Ford F150 pickup pulled up alongside. A balding white man in his 40s fired several shots at the car’s driver, killing him, said Officer Joe Harn of the Garland police.

Police said the pickup fled south on Jupiter Road. Minutes later it was reported that a man began shooting at a semi with no trailer between Royal Lane and Skillman Street. No one was injured.

Police said a driver then shot at a 42-year-old man driving a United Van Lines 18-wheeler. The trucker was killed. His rig came to a stop in the middle lane of westbound LBJ just west of the Miller Road exit.

Police have not released the names of the men who were killed, but said the driver of the 18-wheeler was about to park his rig.

“The plan was he was going to fly home to be with his wife and kids,” said Lt. Craig Miller of the Dallas homicide unit.

Didn’t they catch that shooter that was working the Garland - Richardson - Plano area last summer? Wonder if he’s out on bail? I think he turned out to be Asian.

“until this nutcase is caught, shot or quits.”

They never quit. Criminals of this type do not tend to quit, just take a break, then back to it often with better tactics.

I live in Garland and travel 635 every day to N. Dallas. The first shooting happened just a block or so from Targetmasters where we go to the range.
I’m working from home tomorrow.

In Texas, especially this close to East Texas’ Piney Woods, quite often criminals “quit” in the sense that someone gets to them first and disposes of the body.

No, he’s still in jail. Thai-An Huu Nguyen confessed to the crime spree and won’t be getting out any time soon. After which, he will be deported back to Vietnam (he was a legal resident here.)

Reminder for all Texans: HB 1815 made it legal to carry a pistol in your car, even without a permit, as long as the gun is not in plain view and you are not engaged in a crime (other than a traffic / Class C offense), prohibited from owning a gun at all, or a member of a street gang.

Yep, the only thing is, our County Attorney advised LEOs to continue enforcing the OLD law, the impossible one that had been on the books, what, 100 yrs? Then there was the DA in Harris county that ordered his staff the same and several others across the state.

I think the Harris Cty DA was caught with porn on his computer so he's history, not sure about all the Ass't DAs running around though "in charge". Otherwise, you are absolutely right, now for a pocket full of money to fight the corrupt CAs and DAs and occasional brain-dead juries that nod their heads in support of these tyrants... {shrug} They just want to get hit with a giant judgement again, like when they tried to ban gun shows.

On the other hand, the Dallas County DA (where these incidents happened) honestly doesn’t ever seem to care. In fact, even before HB 1815 passed, the Dallas DA was known to interpret the old “travelling” statute very loosely if a non-permit carrier had had to resort to a pistol carried in the car.

In one incident, the Dallas DA declined to even bother putting the case before the grand jury for a no-bill and returned the shooter’s gun with a CCW permit application packet attached.

Yes. They got that guy at a McDonald’s in Garland. I doubt he’s on the streets again, tho.

A balding white man in his 40s fired several shots

More circumstantial evidence that when skin color is NOT mentioned in the news report it is that of a minority.

Believe it or not, I was at that Jupiter/LBJ intersection... last Saturday.

Of course... I'd have returned fire!

Crap like this happens a lot. When the MSM gears up to support “common sense gun control,” you’re gonna see all of the stories you used to have to look for front and center on the TODAY Show, to create the impression that there is a sudden epidemic of “gun violence,” which can only be thwarted by the intervention of His Holiness, Obama, and his minions in Congress.

Say, Bender, do you happen to drive a Tan Ford F150 by chance?
