Selfish road trip vanity: Eating places in Las Cruces, NM/El Paso, TX?
Today | Self

Posted on 01/04/2009 5:53:23 PM PST by DCBryan1

Hey Freepers on Las Cruces/El Paso area: I'm on PCS orders from CA back to AR and stopping in your area for the night. My honey and I would like some suggestions on some local good eats!

NO CHAIN RESTAURANTS!

We would like either a good steakhouse or the best Mexican food restaurant.

Thank you so much!

I haven’t been there in years, but there used to be a place in Old Mesilla that was great. I don’t recall the name tho. And it may be gone. If you go thru Capitan NM eat at El Paisano and in Santa Fe, the Shed.

You might want to take a look at “Good Eats” “Alton Brown”...I vaguely recall his pointing out a family owned restaurant in Las Cruces as the best Mexican restaurant he’d ever been to...

Haven’t been there recently, but in the past I’ve enjoyed Senor Fish in El Paso. Interesting combination of seafood and Mexican fare.

DC,
Susie is right...the Shed in SF is good...as is Maria’s, home of 99 different Margaritas from $5 to $49.

We eat at the Shed every chance we get. Their food is great and their lemon souffle is to die for!

In Old Mesilla? It’s called, or was called, La Posta, I think.

I second Old Mesilla in Las Cruces. Several good Mexican restaurants there, but the most famous is La Posta de Mesilla.

How about Dennys :’)Last year I was headed home and had enough mountain driving but I had not been to LC before so my mom and I decided to check it out. I had no idea how high we were until I saw White Sands below us. So beautiful coming down. I forget the name of the town we stayed in but we were surrounded by mountains. We ate ate Dennys (which was very good) then took the military highway thru the desert to El Paso. My kind of drive...flat...beside the “hills” :’)

No. I’ll have to look it up but it was about 5 miles from the park and has a space museum. There was a good Chinese rest there too.

Bingo! I haven’t been there since the late 70s (I went to college for a year in Las Cruces) but as I recall the food was good back then.

There is a small place in Las Cruces, NM call ‘Dublin’s’. It was pretty good when I visited about two weeks ago. Kind of like a chain, but better. There are a group of Comfort Hotels, north in I-25 at the first exit north of I-10. Nice, cheap places to stay, and Dublin’s is almost next door.
