Don’t know when he wrote that.

He lived through some very dark times. My dad was born in 1890...but lived to be 92.

Thanks for the birthday greetings!

Not only has it all been good so far, but I may actually get through these most dangerous days.

I’ll have to be careful though, no dangerous rhyming for a while.

"Rhyme away!"

Salt From The Sea

The aged sailor staggered some, as earth betrayed his gait,
In staying in the place it was, while his reflex would wait,
To let the next wave heave it up, and then upon its crest,
He'd safely plant his weary foot, for half-a-second's rest.

He made his way unsurely, a lifetime to unlearn,
He had some gold to last a while. How slow to make it burn?
Upon the sea he'd come of age, from stripling youth back then,
How should he set upon the world, a new world once again?

His hair had grown all frosty, from standing watch at sea,
The sturdy leather of his skin was cured as it could be,
Perhaps the first place he might stop, to calm his flowing mane,
A barber shop, to cut back on his locks so grown full-rein.

Retirement driven, he would spend his days upon the shore,
Though questing there, his tunneled stare would view the sea no more,
And in this small thing he stood out, like some strange-tongued foreigner,
T'was best to shed his locks so dread, the rime of the ancient mariner.

Hey everyone!

The greenhouse was rockin’ yest—sunny and 70. Today—temps are dropping and it rained all day. Sposed to be a high in the mid 30’s Mon, low in the low 20’s and possible snow. Bleh! I’m ready for spring!

OTOH, I did get a lot done in the greenhouse today! LOL Transplanting peppers and getting ready to do maters next week. Sowed some flower seeds yest and today and lots of herbs.

Y’all have a great weekend!

Good evening everyone.

This little kitten reminds me of my cat, Lucky, when she was a little.

Hope you are all enjoying your weekend. :-)

They will not go quietly,
the cats who've shared our lives.
In subtle ways they let us know
their spirit still survives.

Old habits still make us think
we hear a meow at the door.
Or step back when we drop
a tasty morsel on the floor.

Our feet still go around the place
the food dish used to be,
And, sometimes, coming home at night,
we miss them terribly.

And although time may bring new friends
and a new food dish to fill,
That one place in our hearts
belongs to them. . . and always will.

Good evening, Victoria. Hope you had a good Saturday.

That little kitty is so cute.

The poem is so true but kinda sad at the same time. Even when we get new kittens, we still miss the ones we’ve lost.

Enjoy the rest of you weekend.

Good evening, NnB.

A very sad poem for today. It is excellent ... I could see that old sailor. Bet he was still giving all the girls the eye. :)

Have a Blessed and restful Sunday.

Fella needed a haircut. What’s sad about that?

I’ve been there myself.

Oh, Victoria, that Poem and Sweet Pic Brought Tears to my Eyes and my Heart. My Dear Kitty, named Fang-Face, Came Immediately to Mind as I Read it, because he was the Last Kitty I had, but I've Known and Loved a Lot of Kitties, All Special in their Own Way.

I tell folks I get paid to play in the dirt! I love it!

We’re right on the coast so we won’t get as bad. This winter has been ridiculous. Just rain today. Talking snow Mon. It could, if this system keeps swinging up from the south. That’s when we get our worst snows.

The Rest

It would be nice, to hear that voice,
That calm embrace, just mellowed so,
Repeat once more some details, now obscure,
And meaningless, until he lets us know,

Until he tells us in that special way,
With pregnant pauses now and then,
For profit, and for drama, and,
With a smile in his voice resumes again,

To tell us what it is he's come to know,
Whether in some vain pursuit for glory,
Or just the way Life is, and goes,
To tell us a story, and the rest of the story.
