Debbie, Debbie, Debbie. First of all, the title of the film (and the comic book that spawned it) is Watchmen. Not "The Watchmen" -- Watchmen. Why should we take seriously anything you have to say about the movie when you can't even get the title right? Second of all, the comic book and the movie are both clearly labeled as fare "for mature audiences only"; anyone who brings their kids to an R-rated movie, or lets them read a comic book that's unsuitable for children, is a moron. Third, the film doesn't get the dates wrong; it's a work of alternate-history fiction. Fourth, the story is intended as an ironic look at costumed heroes as they would be if they existed in the real world, not as an inspirational story centered on a true superhero like Superman. Fifth, the Big Blue Dong is never "activated" while in sight of the reader/viewer in either the comic book or the movie, and the Supreme Court has ruled that an "unactivated" dong is not ipso facto obscene.

And finally, comic books are not and never were "just for kids". Grow up, Debbie.

Ok, now I gotta see it.

The movie is RATED R, its a movie based on a completely ADULT graphic model, if you think this is a movie for kids, then frankly you are an imbecile.

With all due respect, anyone who thinks that millions and millions and millions of children, preteens and young teens will not view "The Watchmen", in the coming years, would, by many responsible adults, be described as unstable.

Adults who frequent such garbage, in the name of being a "free" adult, are contributing to the very serious decline of this nation and other nations........... As we all become more and more desensitized to the vulgar, violent, hedonistic society we are becoming, we invite the chains that encircle us and choke out our real freedoms.

Kinda like the much overweight man who has just eaten another huge meal, and, lying on the ground, expects to be able to jump up and defeat the well trained, agile, physically fit enemy.

We are inviting our ultimate defeat, as a free nation..............

"Corrupt the young, get them away from religion. Get them interested in sex. Make them superficial, destroy their ruggedness.Get control of all means of publicity and thereby: Get the peoples' mind off their government by focusing their attention on athletics, sexy books and plays, and other trivialities. Divide the people into hostile groups by constantly harping on controversial matters of no importance. Destroy the peoples faith in their natural leaders by holding up the latter to ridicule, contempt and obloquy. Always preach true democracy but seize power as fast and as ruthlessly as possible. Encourage government extravagance, destroy its credit, produce fear with rising prices, inflation and general discontent. Foment unnecessary strikes in vital industries, encourage civil disorders and foster a soft and lenient attitude on the part of government towards such disorders. By specious argument cause the breakdown of the old moral virtues: honesty, sobriety, continence, faith in the pledged word, ruggedness. Cause the registration of all firearms on some pretext, with the view of confiscating them and leaving the population defenseless." Vladimir Ilich Lenin

The purposeful moral decline of a just society is one of the key factors in facilitating it's end.

So I shouldn’t be allowed to watch a movie I’ve been looking forward to for 20 years because there are bad parents out there that will let their kids watch it?!

Sorry but reality is, at best, R rated. Can’t make the world G, can’t make all the movies G, filtering your kids input is your job not mine. I’m an adult, I get to go see whatever movie I want.

I’ve been reading that “Watchmen” is fantastic. The novel was excellent. From her descriptions, it sounds like DS didn’t get it and was angry about it from start to finish.

“Sorry but reality is, at best, R rated.”

I suppose Schlussel & co. are against adults seeing Shakespeare, complete with eye gougings, incest, cannibalism, beheadings, mutilations, and all sorts of good stuff. Now get back to McChurch.

I have no doubt that kids will see this movie, but to claim that this movie is for kids, is a bit disingenuous.

To believe that because something was a comic book means it must be wholesome and pure is beyond naive. Comic books run the gammit, like all forms of entertainment.

I have a different view on the world than you do in terms of things, I do not think that content that isn’t fully “wholesome” is inately bad. I don’t speak for everyone, but I am damned sure glad that when I do choose to indulge in entertainment, that its not all Bolliwood sunshine and roses.

Now does that mean I don’t believe in good and evil, God and Satan, Christ and Mohammed? Nope, and while obviously making sure content viewed by my kids is age appropriate, I don’t expect or sheild them from things that I don’t agree with, I expect to raise in such a way that when they are exposed to such things they recognize them for what they are.

This is not a movie for kids, though there is no doubt kids will see it when its out on DVD and on Cable... and while I don’t have Cable in my home and would never let my child watch this movie, but I also know sooner or later he will see it, he’s 12, and eventually he’ll see it. I can’t keep him from being exposed to things forever, and I don’t believe I should, I hope hes a bit older when he finally sees this movie, even an edited version, but if he does and I find out about it becomes a teachable moment, if I don’t find out about, hopefully I’ve given him more than enough teachable moments to deal with it.

” Sometimes the things that may or may not be true are the things a man needs to believe in the most. That people are basically good. That honour, courage and virtue mean everything ; that power and money ... money and power mean nothing. That good always triumphs over evil. And I want you to remember this.... that love....true love never dies ! Remember that boy ... remember that. Doesn’t matter if it is true or not, a man should believe in those things , because those are the things worth believing in...... got that ? “

I read the original graphic novel and yes, this is not a kid’s story or movie. It’s rated R. My favorite character Rorschach is being played by Jackie Earle Haley who was the cool loner kid from The Bad News Bears. The character Rorschach is based on the comic book character Mr. A who was created by Steve Ditko who follows Ayn Rand’s Objectivism.

I’m real curious how this flick stacks up against other (and there are very few) NC-17 movies.

Without being able to cite specific instances, it seems when the PG-13 rating came out, there was a certain “line” and now that line is getting stretched closer to the “R” rating, while the “R” rating is getting stretched closer to the “NC-17” rating. JMHO, not going to the wall for it.

So I shouldn’t be allowed to watch a movie

Classic radical libertarian method........assign words and thoughts to me that I have not written........under our current laws, you are "allowed" to see the said "movie"............and, if our nation does not change course, in a few short years you will be "allowed" to see a "movie" that features a "hero" who just happens to also be a child molester.

Like lemmings over a cliff..........

Sorry but reality is, at best, R rated. Can’t make the world G, can’t make all the movies G, filtering your kids input is your job not mine.

The tired "welcome to the real world" argument has been repeated in various forms for thousands of years by people who are ignorant to the history of the decline and fall of nations...........

That's why most of us who have been waiting more than 20 years for this movie

I love science fiction, I would never watch chainsaw massacre or any other such movies.

But to be honest, I ain't one of those who've been waiting, I never heard of the Watchmen until the trailers came out.

With that being said, any such sexual scenes as mentioned by Ms. Debbie will certainly turn me off from renting the DVD.

Good Sci-Fi either dark or otherwise does not need to be contaminated by the insertion of sex. The latest Batman was my favorite and clearly the darkest of them all. But there was no sex and that was good.

To be truthfull, I'll probably rent the DVD for its Sci-Fi theme but will most likely be disappointed.

I rented the DVD Sin City but turned it off after the first half hour of viewing...........That may very well be the case with this movie.

PG-13 was supposed to take over the “high PG” zone. But it’s always felt to me like it instead became the “low R”.

We are allowed, but you’ve made it quite clear in your posting that you don’t want us to be allowed to watch a movie like this.

There’s nothing tired or ignorant about it. The real world is a dirty nasty place filled with dirty nasty activities, some of which are necessary to even make a kid. Eventually kids find out the world is dirty and nasty, you can post pone it, you can structure it, but you can’t prevent it. And meanwhile thinking adults should be limited to exclusively kid friendly entertainment just to make sure no kids find out early is dumb, for one thing it means we no longer get to do the stuff that makes kids.

Boy, you revealed too much of your depraved mind with that post. As a n00b, try to remain low-key for a month or two more before displaying your twisted mind. Oh! And give believing God another try ... His plan for procreation is not dirty/nasty, but folks like you can sure make it appear that way don’tchaknow.
