TORA BORA REVISITED: HOW WE FAILED TO GET BIN LADEN AND WHY IT MATTERS TODAY
COMMITTEE ON FOREIGN RELATIONS ^ | NOVEMBER 30, 2009 | John F. Kerry, Chairman

Posted on 11/29/2009 8:55:56 AM PST by Lurkina.n.Learnin

LETTER OF TRANSMITTAL

UNITED STATES SENATE, COMMITTEE ON FOREIGN RELATIONS, Washington, DC, November 30, 2009

DEAR COLLEAGUE: This report by the Committee majority staff is part of our continuing examination of the conflict in Afghanistan. When we went to war less than a month after the attacks of September 11, the objective was to destroy Al Qaeda and kill or capture its leader, Osama bin Laden, and other senior figures in the terrorist group and the Taliban, which had hosted them. Today, more than eight years later, we find ourselves fighting an increasingly lethal insurgency in Afghanistan and neighboring Pakistan that is led by many of those same extremists. Our inability to finish the job in late 2001 has contributed to a conflict today that endangers not just our troops and those of our allies, but the stability of a volatile and vital region. This report relies on new and existing information to explore the consequences of the failure to eliminate bin Laden and other extremist leaders in the hope that we can learn from the mistakes of the past. Sincerely,

JOHN F. KERRY, Chairman

Oh, so Kerry has downgraded Bin Laden and the rest to "extremists". They are no longer terrorists.

Isn't it funny how the Democrats want to have it both ways? They want to be seen as gung ho about getting Bin Laden, yet they're too squeemish to use the strongest words when speaking of him.

What a joke, I just read through the report. It reads like a political novel. Guess I’m not surprised.

Kerry, why the long face?

Because those who make an HONEST evaluation realize that 1993 was the point of "inaction"... after the original WTC bombing.

Where were you, John Kerry(we know you were in Vietnam)before/during/after 93?

Democraps are so good at revisionist history...to pacify their failures.

Bingo!

If they had wanted bin Laden, they would have smoked his arse back when Clinton had several opportunities to do so.
Kerry was all over that one, huh?

Nope, this is nothing more than another failed attempt to pin the blame on the Bush-”It’s Bush’s fault”-donkey and divert from Barry inept ability to perform as Commander-in-Chief.

“On July 12, Tenet went to Capitol Hill to provide a top-secret briefing for senators about the rising threat of an imminent attack. Only a handful of senators turned up in S-407, the secure conference room in the Capitol, to hear the
CIA director warn that he was extremely worried that bin Laden and Al Qaeda were preparing an attack on U.S. soil.”

Which Senators showed John?

At any rate, contrary to Kerry’s BS rhetoric on this, capturing or killing bin Laden would not make any difference as it relates to ongoing acts of Islamic oriented fundamentalist terrorism....not a damn bit of difference.

This is Obama’s “if we fail in Afghanistan it was all Bush’s fault” strategy.

The rats stoop lower and become more desperate as the rot of their bankrupt ideas is exposed. The Afgan campaign was a brilliant success. We rid the country of the dreaded Taliban and Al Queda in about 2 months. Our brave men and women accomplished trememdous results with relatively little resources. The evil doers were put on the run with huge disruptions to their operations.

The idea that Al Gore, John Kerry, BHO or any other rat would have found Bin Laden is laughable. A large scale invasion of Pakistan would have been necessary. The military commanders made their best judgment on Tora Bora given the intelligance and constraints at that time. Bush did not make any stupid demands on the military. He wisely listened to their recommedations. To think that the dithering BHO would have willed a different outcome is absurd. He despises the military and the causes for which our military has been used.

He overlooks Clinton's TWO chances to get him.

One was a pure hand-over the other happened when his admin would not allow us to get him when they had him cornered.

So, why did Lurch vote *against* vests for US troops? And then bitch about the lack when he accepted the nomination in 2004? And then get a free pass from the so-called journalists in attendance and not in attendance?
