Here is video from the local Fox affiliate in New York reporting on a multi-car accident involving former NBC Anchor Tom Brokaw and his wife. The Brokaws were unhurt, but a 28 year-old woman was thrown from an SUV as a result of the accident and died. . . . (VIDEO)

I don’t like Brokaw, but this is not his fault and we shouldn’t make it seem that way. The crash doesn’t appear to have been that severe, and the woman was thrown out of her car because she wasn’t wearing a seat belt.

Doors pop open even in fairly low-speed crashes, and the laws of physics mean that your body is still traveling even though the car has suddenly come to a stop. Bad news.

I remember my driving teacher was a highway patroller and he said he never pulled a dead body from seatbelt.

There was a mail van in front of them that swerved to avoid something (a tire, IIRC) in the road, they swerved, one of the vehicles struck another car, and this woman’s car went up onto the median and the door flew open. At least, that’s what I have been able to gather from the reports.

Basically, it involved cars swerving to avoid something in the road.

Wow. That's got to be horrific for everyone involved. I don't care for Brokaw either, but really...he can't be faulted for her not buckling up.

Well said. People think they’re invisible and can survive anything. I always wear a seat belt even if I’m going down the street to get gas, and I demand my 9 year old daughter to do the same.

It's Brokaw fault because he was there. If he had not been there it would not of happened. Just like Huckabe making Clemmons eligible for parole. Just turn left.

True but I have a friend that’s 4’9” and was in an accident. They told her that if she’d had her seatbelt on it would have decapitated her. There ARE some circumstances that make it unsafe. However, I doubt the girl in this crash was short.

There are always statistical outliers. The guy or gal who just missed Flight 98. The person who had their car stall out on the way to their outer office at the Pentagon.

But, day in, day out, seatbelts save lives. I won't even go 1/2 a block to the 7-11 without mine.
