“Worst book of the series. It was difficult to keep reading on. I can only imagine how difficult it was to write since the author had clearly lost interest herself.”
I was also disappointed in the last book, especially because I had such high expectations. I thought the Half-Blood Prince was tremendous, so I really hoped that the author would build off of it to finish with the best book of the series. I didn’t think Deathly Hallows was bad, I just didn’t think it was as good as any of the previous books. I don’t think this necessarily means that the final two movies will be doomed to mediocrity though; there’s a lot of material to work with, and the plot is not fundamentally flawed, so I think it is still possible, depending on the director and the scripts, for the final two movies to give Harry the proper send-off he deserves, which the book IMO did not fully provide.
Good point, but by that logic Lucy is suspect as well. She was a pro golfer at one point, you know...
Gratuitous sex and nudity. Typical Hollyweird response to lack of plot or inability to tell story.
Why not a few gratuitous explosions, to boot???
I have this image of the screenwriters...
“What do we do after having Harry & Hermione have sex?”
“Need something to bring in audiences in S.F. - don’t want the boy/girl stuff turning them away...”
“How about Ron & Dumbledore going at it?”
“Dumbledore is dead.”
“Even BETTER!”
Then that movie will have nothing to do with the book. That just plain sounds stupid.
The books turned pretty dark around Goblet of Fire (4). I'm re-watching the movies now, just finished Chamber of Secrets (2) last night, and I wouldn't be comfortable taking a kid under 10 to see it. Since the niblings who live near me are forbidden all things Potter, the point's moot.
If they want to hang on to a PG rating, they'll ax any serious nudity. I hope they're just trying to keep interest alive in the (far too long) interim between movies.
I actually saw a couple of the HP movies becasue my ex-wife was a Harry Potter freak. (shudder)
FWIW, I think that the actor who plays Potter is queer as a football bat and will come out when his career starts to go downhill.
Roald Dahl was pretty dark too but I don't recall Matilda or Willy Wonka going starkers in their movies.
I’ve got a great idea. They can put Will Ferrell in charge of the next movie so he can turn it into a raunchy R-rated comedy and maybe he can lose even more money with Harry Potter than he lost on Land of the Lost.
Thank you for providing some sanity. My brain was hurting from all the stupid in this thread.
And as for the “Kids story” angle, well I have said for awhile that one of the things I LIKED about the series is that when the main characters were kids, it was a kids story; when the characters were young adults, it was young adult fiction; and the last book was definitely adult; but not THAT kind of “adult entertainment” where “adult” means sex.
Because the makers of the HP films have never done that before.
Dittos. I grow so weary of boner placebo commercials on TV. That is why I always keep the remote in my hand when watching TV with the kids.
Nudity is not in the book. There is a brief scene when Ron is about to destroy one of the horcrux’s and it exerts some power on his mind to play on the jealousy that he’s always had a bit of of Potter. It makes him think that Hermione really loves Harry and that they make fun of him behind his back. There really is no sexual implication at all in the scene.
The nude thing (if true) is just Hollywood going too far as usual.
It is a dark book, but realistic. When evil is fought, some people will die, but it makes the point that some things are worth dying for.
This will certainly cheapen the whole concept.
I hope this is just one of those urban myths.
I lose 100% for anyone who strips for the camera. Thats just me.
well it is all over the media.
Anyone who lets their kid become a “model” or actress is just begging for trouble.

I’ll wait and see but for now I will call Bravo Sierra on this
