Birtherism For Dummies
Vanity | 02/19/2010 | Wizard1961

If BHO is removed from office because he is not a natural citizen, he then becomes a race martyr and Biden becomes president. Hillary probably becomes VP. How would this help conservatives in 2010 and 2012 -- it would hurt us, right?

If the Lewinsky debacle had removed Clinton, Gore would have become President and cruised to his own electorial victory. This would have been a disaster.

I agree there is a puzzle here. I agree there is free speech & everyone has a right to pursue this. My question: is there some angle here that I've missed that makes this smart?

“The question is how do you get to the point where there is impetus to create such legislation?”

Tea Party?

IF... big if... if we could get the Becks & Coulters to support a generic request for all elected feds...

This way, we would not be harassing a particular person — we would be defining a standard of openness. People understand things like the Freedom of Information act.

Politically, I think this could work.

However, there's no definitive proof, anywhere, that de Vattel's views on citizenship (two parents, both citizens) was the common understanding of the phrase.

John Yinger is Professor of Economics and Public Administration at the Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs, Syracuse University, and the father of two adoptive children, one of whom, even when old enough, will not be eligible to be President.

The Origins and Interpretation of the Presidential Eligibility Clause in the U.S. Constitution: by John Yinger

The term "natural born" citizen has a long history in British common law.(38) In fact, a law passed in 1677 law says that "natural born" citizens include people born overseas to British citizens. This usage was undoubtedly known to John Jay, who had children born overseas while he was serving as a diplomat.(39) It also appears to have been employed by the members of the first Congress, who included many of the people who had participated in the Constitutional Convention. To be specific, The Naturalization Act of 1790, which was passed by this Congress, declared "And the children of citizens of the United States, that may be born beyond the sea, or out of the limits of the United States, shall be considered as natural born citizens; Provided, that the right of citizenship shall not descend to persons whose fathers have never been resident of the United States."(40)

In other words, they were drawing on the English legal tradition, which protected allegiance to the king by conferring citizenship on all children "whose fathers were natural-born subjects," regardless of where the children were born.(44) Thus, according to Morse, "the framers thought it wise, in view of the probable influx of European immigration, to provide that the President should at least be the child of citizens owing allegiance to the United States at the time of his birth."(45)

Morse also emphasizes the difference between the terms "native-born" and "natural-born." The dictionary, which follows the English precedents, defines "native-born" as "belonging to or associated with a particular place (as a country) by birth therein" and "natural-born" as "having a specified status or character by birth."(47) If the Founders had not wanted an expansive definition of citizenship, Morse writes, "it would only have been necessary to say, 'no person, except a native-born citizen.'"(48)

Excellent! I’ll add that to my files. The matter sure seems clear to me — Obama is not Constitutionally eligible to be president.

No he isn't. I am amazed at the "freepers" who argue otherwise.

this issue is above politics, it’s about the fundamentals of our country.

If this issue is above politics, why wasn't it raised when Obama first entered the race for POTUS as a long-shot? If this issue is above politics, and about your fundamentals, he shouldn't have been on the ballot to begin with.

I don't recall any debates about de Vattel on FR until Leo Donofrio filed a suit with Scotus late in 2008. Why wasn't it a hot topic during the campaign? There were plenty of folks questioning whether he was born in the US, but surely, it was also no secret that Obama's father wasn't a citizen or permanent resident since he first published his "memoir" back in '95.

At this point, you basically have your fingers in your ears and are saying "nah-nah-nah-nah-I-Can't-Hear-You!"

The matter of Obama's Constitutional elibility to be president (or not) do not hinge on when Freepers decided to start talking about de Vattel.

By all means, change the subject and throw insults. Those aren't very convincing discussion tactics, although they appear to be the ones used most often when this topic comes up.

I'll leave ya'll to agree with each other for now. Chores await.

Credibility is gained by a sustained demonstration of thoughfulness and conservative understanding. You have demonstrated none of the above.

In fact, your “concern troll” postings lable you a lemming.

You proclaim your disdain of my “sense of time”, yet you are so very concerned that ‘we are wasting our time’ supporting the constitution. How utterly and nonsensically inconsistent.

And while Thoreau famously ssaid “A foolish inconsistency is the obgoblin of little minds”, it pays to remember Mason Cooley’s rejoinder.

“Inconsistency has been overpraised by those who do not expect to suffer from it.”

Have a good day.

How many of my writings here have you read?

In what way?

Excellent post and excellent points. Thank you.

Most of us know what is happening is BAD, WRONG, and because we honor our belief in America and the Constitution, and the people ... we are ham strung ... not knowing how to STOP the travesty of Obama and his cohorts. Czars, progressives, that have a different set of beliefs, and have no compunction about being evil and unconstitutional in their processes. ACORN and fraudulently controlling the voting process. They are operating outside the rules/law and Obama is now going to use executive Order
to accomplish what the legislative bodies did not or could not pass. the end goal is in their sights (MO and nothing is going to stop them. We have seen the tip of the iceberg. WATCH the many inroads that will occur next year and the next. Legislation once passed and offices created it is almost impossible to close them down and fire the people.

UNIONS, CAP AND TRADE, IMMIGRATION, TAXES,NATIONAL DEFENSE, how to pay for the 100 TRILLION debt that America owes, is real, crushing, and IMPOSSIBLE TO PAY IN OUR LIFETIME. AND climbing. out of control spending can and will bring America down, if we do not stop the billions given in Foreign Aid, that we do not have, and the latest is Haiti, which needs help, how are we gong to curtail entitlement programs. Our population is growing and the jobs are leaving.

It is a very complex situation. First things first. Stop or freeze spending on all but the most basic programs. We keep acting and Free Wheeling like drunken sailors in port or LasVegas big winners..

God help us, in Jesus name, amen.

The Constitution is not a dictionary. It contains many hundreds of words that are not “defined” within the four corners of the document. These words are not defined because their meaning was clear and unambiguous to all, and remain so except for those who are, as I put it, apologists for perfidy.

You sir, I must deem to fall within this category.

F Zeerho is not a natural born citizen, our government has been stolen, and the Constitution is a meaningless shred of parchment.

And if he (Obama) is thrown out of office for lack of being a natural born citizen, then there would go TSC and over half of congress. For they are in-part, are responsible for allowing this to happen, along with Dick channey who’s duty it was to vet the incoming president. For these reasons, there is nothing going to happen to Obama as for as impeachment goes.

As for our constitution being a meaningless shred of parchment, I think we see this becoming more evident every day.

I am a birther.

The removal of the Kenyan Impostor from office would doom the Democrats to face the charge of running a fraudulent Manchurian candidate.

Stop being such a pussy and join us in salivating at the prospect of ripping the flesh from the Kenyan’s bones.

Any questions?

” ...I fear for our country when someone can become President without a past, a new take on the Manchurian candidate.”
___________________________________________________________

... ‘without a past’ ... very very interesting thought.
And TRUE.

We have allowed the creation of a whole culture of Welfare, entitlements, and destroyed the educational system by dumbing it down, revisionist History, unionized teachers that teach to a given curriculum. ETC. In short we have step by step and incrementally arrived at this place where after we add in the millions of state and federal government employees ... there are more of them than there are of the producers of money (us)..

God help us in our day, at this time and in this nation, in Jesus name, amen.
