The American Minute - 3/14/2010 - Albert Einstein - American Citizen as of 1940

Born in Germany MARCH 14, 1879, he began teaching himself calculus at age 14. With a doctorate from the University of Zurich, he wrote papers on electromagnetic energy, relativity, and statistical mechanics. He predicted a ray of light from a distant star would appear to bend as it passed near the Sun. When an eclipse confirmed this, the London Times headline ran November 7, 1919, "Revolution in science-New theory of the Universe-Newtonian ideas overthrown."

This was Nobel Prize winner Albert Einstein. Einstein's first visit to the U.S. was to raise funds for Jerusalem's Hebrew University.

On his 3rd visit, 1932, he took a post at Princeton.

When Nazis took over Germany, Albert Einstein stayed in the U.S., becoming a citizen in 1940.

Einstein's theory of relativity is the basis for applying atomic energy.

instein's warning that Nazis could create an atom bomb led FDR to set up the Manhattan Project.

Though not believing in a personal God, The Saturday Evening Post, October 26, 1929, published an interview with George Sylvester Viereck, in which Einstein stated:

“As a child, I received instruction both in the Bible and in the Talmud. I am a Jew, but I am enthralled by the luminous figure of the Nazarene...No one can read the Gospels without feeling the actual presence of Jesus. His personality pulsates in every word. No myth is filled with such life.”

Three years before Einstein died, he was asked to be Israel's 2nd President, but declined due to age.

The periodic table's 99th element, discovered shortly after his death in 1955, was named "einsteinium."

Princeton University's Fine Hall has inscribed Albert Einstein's words: "God is clever, but not dishonest."

Ping to today’s American Minute.

(Just did not get one of these posted yesterday).

Also am recommending from this same William J Federer - his “Faith in History” program on TCT TV.

Video on demand - here: http://vidego.multicastmedia.com/player.php?p=y2b99484

Excellent!!! Talking about where our founders mentioned “the unborn” in the word “posterity”. Also talks about our huge national debt and how it has tripled since O became President....but also about Jefferson who cancelled every federal tax on everything except on salt - and, the economy BOOMED! Jefferson gave a statement, 2nd annual message to Congress: We are able without an internal tax to make large and effectual payments toward the discharge of our public debt.......so we can emancipate our posterity from this mortal canker!

Jefferson continued, “It is an encouragement, fellow citizens, of the higher order, to proceed as we have begun by substituting economy for taxation, business growing for taxing.”

I think I am going to post “Faith in History” - video link -as a separate thread.

God bless all today and always!

I had a friend from the DC area who, proud of his Jewish heritage, made the following observation: Had Hitler not forced Jews from Germany, he would have won the war.

Sorry about that bad link:

Go here: http://www.americanminute.com/index.php?date=2004-03-14&view=View

But the initial post covers all that this “American Minute” brief article about Einstein.

This is not a comprehensive discussion of Einstein. It is meant to present something about Einstein related to faith and to America that perhaps most people do not know.

May I include you on the ping list for this thread (daily thread)?
