This is just CYA on the part of the doctor. We did not know Elvis had this condition back then, but we do know he was taking a prodigious amount of drugs. Anyone with this condition should not have been taking all those opiates. That would be like pouring gasoline on a fire. And it was presumably Dr. Nick giving him the pills.
After several surgeries, I was put on vicodin as a post-op pain reliever. I would stop taking the vicodin as quickly as possible because of its stopping-up effect.
Perhaps it is a hereditary problem, but.....Elvis was hooked on downers and pain pills.
Anybody that has had to take Percocet for more than a few days, knows how it affects your muscle necessary to pass solid waste.
Elvis was taking a cocktail of these drugs.
I remember this when it was first reported when he first died. He was constipated from too many drugs. He died on the toilet. I had read that in the news back a year or so after he died. He was also reading a book at the time, it was a book about the discovery of Jesus’s bones. So, it is sad.
metamuscil was ( and still is).....as were bananas and the ever popular magneseum salts
This is worth a BOOK? This doctor should keep his patient’s info private.
His dying word, as he died on the crapper.....”Corn?”
So if they had done the colostomy then, hed probably still be here.
Well?...Thats’ what peanut butter will do....clog the pipes.
I heard about it/read about not long after his death. I also think that he was kept on a constant supply of medications that predisposed him to an early death. His managers were driven to make money off of him. They never let him rest. I was not a huge follower but did recognize a great voice. God rest his soul now.
At the time he was here, I really didn’t take to his music. But now, I like it a lot better and have a lot of his stuff ... :-)
that just begs for corny questions
"Did Elvis eat Pop Farts for breakfast?"
"Did a Pop Fart kill him?"
"Mama always warned me about those Pop Farts."
A) 7 days to stabilize - they wanted to make sure I did not contract pneumonia
B) Operate to put me back together
C) Hold me for 5 more days to insure that I was able to be discharged
I went 9 days without a ‘poop’ and was only on morphine for two days after the operation.
Opiates did not cause my failure to complete my BM. I just was messed up, so to speak.
I'm NOT an Elvis fan, but perhaps there was something else causing his constipation. I KNOW that for my record constipation opiates were not a contributing factor(save for the last day).
For what it's worth...
Roughage. Roughage. Roughage. In extremity, prunes.
I love cheese, Cheese loves me. Loves me so much it never wants to leave.
isn’t constipation caused by some of these drugs he was taking thus making the drug addiction the cause? I have not read the article in full so do not know what the doctor said about this connection. However to me it is obvious.
I’m so ashamed I clicked on this thread.
