OT, but how do your Great Pyrenees do with kids? I’d always heard they weren’t great with kids? My FIL has one and she tends to stay whereever the kiddo is.

Hm...obviously a gun would be the best way of dealing with it, but I’m not sure getting into melee range of a potentially rabid animal is the wisest course?

Our Great Pyrenees are good with our grandchildren. They’ve had things done to them by the grandkids that other dogs would have taken a hand off for.
Great Pyrenees are noted for being protective. As such, if they’re raised around children, they will protect them, instinctively.
If the FIL’s Great Pyr is around the kid all the time, good bet the dog sees it as its duty to guard the child
The funniest thing to watch, though, is our cat. She walks around and under the dogs very casually. The cat was feral when we got her, and wasn’t around dogs until she was almost 3.

Of course the squirrel is trying to get at them- it probably saw the Obama sign in their yard a while back and now he knows the house must be full of nuts.

I figured that out after I asked you. We had a Heeler a few years ago. We just called him a Blue Heeler, then I remembered it was Australian Blue Heeler. Nice dog, smart, calm, easy going guy called Boss Dog. He was born on an Indian Reservation in Wyoming and was a little smaller than most and he was mostly black with the characteristic white and blue on his face and legs.

Years back had squirrels take up residence in the attic of a place we rented. We were the upper in a 2 story flat...Called everyone we could think of to get the squirrels out. No one would do it...but the fire department gave us the way to do it...(we were concerned because of wiring in the attic and those damn squirrels would play with their nuts at about 11am every day, you could hear them rattling across the floor). We could even see them running up the side of the house (brick) to enter the attic.....
Throw lots of moth balls around the attic via the opening to the attic in the bathroom and also ammonia soaked rags...The rags nearly caused hubby to pass out from the fumes, but it did the trick....squirrels left and never returned...used lots of moth balls and rags...
