Harley-Davidson Profit Soars
wall street journal ^ | 7/20/10 | ROBERT GUY MATTHEWS

Posted on 07/27/2010 8:18:00 PM PDT by wwcj

Harley-Davidson Inc. said Tuesday it expects the global market for motorcycles to remain challenging this year as more consumers opt for lower-priced used motorcycles instead of new ones.

Chief Executive Officer Keith Wandell said he expects Harley's shipments to be down 5%-10% from 2009, while the preference for used motorcycles and the weaker world economy have pushed year-to-date retail sales down 40% from the company peak in 2006...

revtech!

That’s what big dog switched to.

Yes, revtech and baker trannies. That’s the route to go. Forget about S&S.

ahh! decisions, decisions.
I was wanting S&S motor, with RevTech drivetrain. the baker tranny is twice the price of the RevTech. Revtech is giving 3 year warranty on their trans.

did you look at the video at 3:40?

I don’t need to, I’m a Harley guy.

There are many great bikes other than Harley, but they don’t turn my clock.

Frankly, what pis$es me off about Harley bashers, is that those snot nosed people don’t have a clue...IT’s NOT ABOUT THE BIKE, it’s about being in the wind.... it’s about riding... it about an adventure on two wheels. I couldn’t care less what other folks ride.

Light, simple and strong, easy to work on but rarely need it, the 90-degree v engine has a trace of a v-twin type shake at idle but is glassy smooth above 1400 rpm, both cylinders well into the air stream. I like the Guzzi much better than the Ducati and the idea of having to adjust desmo valves every 2000 miles.

I have closer to 200K miles on bikes than 100 and most of that’s in D.C. region traffic. You most likely wouldn’t be alive having tried to do that on Harleys.

custom superglide

baggers aren't my thing. I don't like ape hangers either. I don't have that rear wheel and tire anymore.

Harley cases have their limitations. But they can be strengthened via welding. But I’m not even sure it was the case that broke. They said “motor mount”. I’m assuming a rubber grommet gave out. They are rubber mounted nowdays.

Guzzis are a really nice bike. But you come off like a fool when you start by hacking on a harley engine design, then turn around and praise a goose! Thats like telling everyone how horrible an audi is and then praising VW.

no, they meant the case itself. he said that they have not been able to get a harley case to survive their tests.
it’s crazy, they are still using some of harley’s parts in their engines.

I like them all, I really like the Heritage model. I buy the baggers because we are into cross country rides.

I recently sold my 2000 Ultra Classic to help pay cash for my 2010 Tundra Crew Max limited.

I still have my 2002 Road King Classic and doubt that I will ever give her up.

That's seriously funny and that really is the guy Harley wants for a customer.

For just four years of their corporate existence Harley made real motorcycles. The military knew it was gonna need bikes for curriers in the war before it started. They took two or three Harleys out in the SouthWest deserts and noticed that in five minutes the sand tore the chains apart and in ten minutes the rear cylinder cooked itself...

Thereafter a number of military personnel walked into the office of the hmfic of H/D with a BMW motorcycle and told the fool that was what he was gonna be making for the next few years and he agreed on condition that the day the war ended they leave all those bikes in the desert where they were, and they went straight back to building the same retarded trash the day after VE day.

Pretty sickening, isn't it?

45% adiabatically efficient

C'mon, stop exaggerating. The over-carbbed, over-cammed, under-muffled Harleys around here that pop, misfire and backfire their way around town would be lucky to get to 25% efficiency.

But it's not about having a machine that actually runs right, it's all about the "image."
