How to Make Justin Bieber Sound Incredible: Slow Him Down 800 Percent (I'm stuned by Bieber)

You totally hate Justin Bieber, right, because you're a rebel, or whatever? That's just because you haven't listened to Bieber slowed down 800 percent. Now his new single "U Smile" is a 30-minute epic. And it sounds awesome. No, really.

Courtesy musician Nick Pittsinger, who used the free program Paulstretch, this is "U Smile" made slower. Like, a lot slower—eight times slower, to be exact. And all of a sudden the not-bad piano pop track sounds like the climactic score to some kind of historical epic, or Dead Can Dance, or, like, Animal Collective, or something. It sounds like the ocean, but, like, in heaven, man. Plus, it's 35 minutes long:

Yeah, I can see the Eno thing. I was (am) majorly into the English shoegazer scene in the '90s and this sounds a lot like Slowdive to me. Bieber Space Station!

I wonder what we'd get if we slowed down Debbie Gibson...Cocteau Twins?

A poster at Youtube has been posting Dream Theater videos at double or triple speeds. Here is Octavarium at triple speed. The beginning sounds ok, but the fast parts are insane!

Cocteau Twins nice. Yeah I am a little older. A younger Kraftwerk fan - saw them in concert 5 years ago -staggering. Depeche Mode, Japan, Visage, New Order, Human Leage (both versions) John Foxx, and all that stuff. Got the first Eno albums when I was in high school. Right after he left Roxy.

The only 90’s stuff I really listen a little to was Blur (Damon Albarn is a pr*ck) and maybe Kaiser Cheifs a little. Kaiser really post 2000s.

I was pretty amazed at Justin Bieber slowed down. You wonder how many other songs would sound good.

Wow - suddenly I want to board a really big ship, run to the bow and scream “I’M THE KING OF THE WORLD!”

I’m 37 myself but have the musical taste of an artsy fifty-something. Joy Division is my very favorite, after that CAN and maybe PiL 3rd. And my FReeper name is (very ironically) a Gang of Four song. Looove Kraftwerk - how cool that you got to see them, I wasn’t even aware of a tour. I really envy my older friends for what they got to see and hear firsthand, that is at least until I remember that I still get to be in my 30s for a few years. ;)

I waited - what maybe 30 years to see Kraftwerk. I would say it was the best concert I ever saw. Th evisuals, sound and they had this sound system with smaller speakers in the back of the hall. Amazing. I had frinds who saw earlier tours in Europe.

I thought Gang of Four were Maoists or marxists? I remember “Armalite Rifles.”

I get very weirded out when I am in a restaurant or store and Love Will Tear Us Apart comes on the Muzak. I think I have heard it in Pizzeria Uno, Lowes and another restaurant.

My friend was a big fan of Joy Divison before he killed himself. I get freaked because this poor guy record this song and the next day he kills himself. 30 years later it is on Muzak. Very odd.

YouTube has the 9 episodes of Synth Britainia which was about all the synth bands in the UK. They have a bit with New Order and Bernard Sumner. I think he does talk about Joy Divison.

I am a big Lydon and PiL. I cannot believe I can rember all the lyrics to Pil PIL (first single)and Pop Tones. I remember most of Flowers of Romance and Careering. I give him credit. He really did reinvent himslef after the Pistols.

Weird trivia story: Richard Branson supposedly at his island home brought in Devo and was going to try to get Lydon to be the lead singer of Devo after the Pistols broke up. The Devo guys told the story. I am glad that did not happen for both parties sake. I loved the first Devo album produced by Eno. Very serious and sinister.

I think the second was produced by the great Conny Plank in Germany. He did the third Ultravox album System of Romance which was outstanding.

Wow, I have not heard Joy Division Muzak, yet. I think it would mess with my head, too. Some things are just not to be trifled with, ha!

Yeah, Gang of Four were stupid useful idiots, but their music still rocks. I sort of chose the song for my name partly out of irony, and partly because their lyrics were pretty sarcastic, but if read earnestly sometimes made for good straightforward conservative stuff. Weird, but so am I. I also half had a mind to tick off any hipster DU trolls that might come across me. The way Rush chose the Pretenders for his theme song. ;)

That's an amazing story about Devo! Yes, thank goodness they went along their separate paths. I see Mark Mothersbaugh daily nowadays as he's a regular on the kids' show Yo Gabba Gabba! He draws funny pictures that always come to life and jump off the board.

I'll have to check out that YouTube show, thanks for the suggestion. I was a huge New Order fan in highschool and loved synthy stuff but somehow over time my interest moved more towards the post-punk art rock bands.

I remember when Autobahn came out, just how far ahead of its time it was. I actually like more some of their Pre-Autobahn stuff when it was just Ralf and Florian, Florian could have given Ian Anderson a run for his money on the flute. And "Das Model" is an awesome song, it's a cool video.

The concert was great. They had updated some of the older songs like Man Machine and Radioactivity to name a few. Incredible.

The Model became a hit record by a fluke. They were releasing Computer World as a single. The story is on You Tube with an interview with Wilfgang Flur I think. He said the exec at EMI in London needed a B side for the single. He ended up pick ing The Model from the prior album. It became a pretty big hit.
