KERNERSVILLE, N.C.- A North Carolina collector is auctioning "The Catcher in the Rye" author J.D. Salinger's toilet on eBay with an asking price of $1 million.

Rick Kohl of Kernersville-based webuytreasure.com said he might be open to accepting a smaller sum for the commode, which was taken from a New Hampshire home the notoriously reclusive author moved out of in the mid-1980s, the Charlotte News & Observer reported Thursday.

"I bet it's worth $100,000," Kohl said. "Come on, it's J.D. Salinger's throne! We're talking 'Catcher in the Rye' here!"

The auction runs for about 2 1/2 weeks.

Having been forced to read it in high school, I suppose that toilet was his inspiration for the tome.

That's exactly what my copy looked like. (I loaned it out and never got it back.)

Holy crap! This would go so awesome next to John Lennon's john!

Think of the irony.

Hmmm, it might be one of those pre Federally mandated mini toilets. You know, the ones that handle everything in one flush.

Might be worth it.

I read it again about a year ago just to see if it really sucked as bad as I remembered.

Actually, it was worse than I remembered.

When I quit smoking cold turkey, I promised myself that I would re-read it each time I cheated. I keep a copy in the open just to remind me what is in store for me if I get weak.

It's been a couple of months now, and I am still good to go, so at least that crappy book is good for something!

Maybe one *shaped* like J.D. Salinger...

I’m just glad it wasn’t the toilet of the author of “Watership Down”, I’m pretty sure we’d have so much fun with that, we’d all get banned. ;’)
