COLUMBUS, Ohio – What would happen if you developed a strong opinion on an issue, and later found that the majority of people disagreed with you?

You might think that such a revelation would encourage you to rethink your beliefs. But a new study suggests people often react just the opposite: people grow more confident in some beliefs when they find out later that a majority of people disagree with them.

I’m pretty sure those weren’t the issues the ‘new study’ had in mind.

That depends on your attitude toward your fellow man.

WHY? Is argumentum ad populum now an official mantra of the academic elite? Oh wait... it is.

1) I continually rethink (or, more correctly, think about) all of my beliefs.

2) None of my beliefs are determined by their “popularity”. In other words, what I believe can be influenced by new information and my own thinking, but what I believe is NEVER put up to be voted on by “society”.

As do, I believe most conservatives. Liberals on the other hand have way too much emotion invested in their beliefs. This is why they, as a whole suffer from severe cognitive dissonance. Liberalism is indeed a mental disorder.

No control for cultural differences between Spain and USA?

I wonder - at what point would the authors admit to a cultural difference. Must one be a hunter gatherer, or Islamofascist - in order for culture to color the reponses?

I wonder how much tax money was used to fund this “research”.

Sure, if you form your 'strong opinions' based on nothing more than a desire to fit in with others, I guess you would.

I get it.

If you don't act like a sheep, you're stoopid.
