Don't let FreeRepublic become DemocratUnderground.

Posted on 11/18/2010 10:38:27 AM PST by Democrats hate too much

Free Republic is a pro-life, pro-family, pro-liberty constitutional conservative activist web site. Those who cannot live with that should simply stay away!! (saves wear and tear on my zot button - bitterly clinging redneck, Jim)

Romney is an unrepentant abortionist/statist lying political whore! Just to be absolutely clear, there will never ever be a RINO Romney campaign on FR!! If he somehow becomes the nominee, FR will be running a full-time campaign to DEFEAT him!! If you wish to support him then I suggest you sign off FR and onto Wankers for Mitt!!

Those statments make me worry that FreeRepublic is moving toward a DemocratUnderground kind of stance toward their users. Romney may have done some mistakes like Health Car but I have constantly heard him say that universal helath care was a mistake. If I'm wrong, so what. Lets not kick good Republicans off this site because of their views on abortion and Mitt Romney. Look, if someone says something good about Romney, fine. State your point and try to change that person's views. We are not kicking them off the site! That is DemocratUnderground style dumb. It's what they do.

We discussed him with his hoards of new sign ups for years, on threads that stretched into the thousands of posts.

Romney has support that goes beyond politics, and this site was swarmed by unreasoning, non-conservative, cult followers that chewed up time and energy with no intent to ever engage in an actual political discussion from a conservative perspective.

You were one of those that thought that Mitt Romney would make a good President, and that knocked the anti-Romney freepers, so you should have some memory of that time

Didn’t mean to imply otherwise; sorry if I left that impression.

I didn’t oppose Brown here, because I did hold out hope that he would be able to stop Obamacare; but I couldn’t actively support him because of his pro-abortion views.

I have been fortunate that in my state, all the republicans I’ve been able to vote for have been at least nominally pro-life, and most are strongly pro-life (I have the pleasure of having Delegate Bob Marshall-VA as my representative — author of many pro-life legislation, and the architect of Virginia’s pro-marriage constitutional amendment).

Horrific of you to put DU in the same sentence with FR.

I've been here a while, but I can't recall you, so I looked at your forum posts, to see where you're coming from: YIKES!!!

FYI: ALL Conservatives are pro-life, or they're not conservative at all. "Life, Liberty and the pursuit of happiness."

Notice that LIFE is mentioned first?

"Free Republic is a pro-life, pro-family, pro-liberty constitutional conservative activist web site. Those who cannot live with that should simply stay away!!"

I like it all but the "pro-life... should stay away" part. I think pro-lifers are fighting for something important and have great points. As someone who has converted a lot of Dems to vote Republican I think this issue kills us. I think there needs to be a third group in the abortion conversation just besides just pro-life and pro-choice. How about something like "pro-I-Dont-Want-Govenerment-to-make-Pro-Life-or-Pro-Choice-laws".

Is that what this is? I suppose it may be, whether intentional or accidentally.

So many hideous things are happening to this country so quickly that my head is spinning, and not nearly enough of us are taking it seriously.

” By never claiming to be either, they talk about being “good” Republicans.

“Good” Republicans are responsible for great nominees like Ford, Dole and McCain. “

Yeah boy!

Let us not forget current “good” Republicans like Brown, Snowe, and Collins ;-)

I have always been a Republican because Christian conservatism is found in the Republican party, and nowhere else. Unfortunately, many Republicans belong strictly for the advocacy of lower taxes, or some similar issue.

“Don’t worry about that at all.”

I don't. Never supported him, never will. But if FORCED to make a choice, which devil to choose is a difficult decision.

Does one vote for the “more” conservative/republican candidate, or does one “throw” their vote away on a very long shot candidate?

In the former case, voting for the lesser of two evils, you present the humanist/progressive/liberal abortion-is-a-sacrament crowd a challenge to over-come (your vote). If you choose the latter approach (voting for the long shot), you make it all that much easier for the humanist/progressive/liberal abortion-is-a-sacrament crowd to vote Satin himself into office.

You are never throwing an honest, principled vote away. Never.

The big purge in 2008 was Rudy Giuliani supporters. Some had a habit of miss-stating Ronald Reagan positions in order to make Giuiliani look more conservative, and it rubbed a lot of people the wrong way.

Not being a part of any active campaign, I usually completely miss that there are actually people who sign up at sites like this as part of a political campaign strategy. I think it would be cool if that didn’t happen for any candidate, but I don’t remember it being distracting or anything.

I think the important thing is to not end up like 2008, where conservatives spent so much time attacking each other’s candidates that we never were able to settle on one that could win, so we ended up with John McCain.

To be honest - I would vote for Madoff/Vandersloot in 2012 over Obama at this point.

Yeah, “throw away” might be a bad way to word it, but the ultimate result remains as I describe. The stand keeps your heart pure but many more die because of it as the liberals push their agenda even more to the left, stack the courts even more, pass legislation enshrining matters affecting abortion and everything else.

Then you need to have your memory checked, you were always one of the most prolific defenders of Mitt Romney, your name is in many hundreds, if not thousands of posts, sometimes 5 to 7 of your posts stacked on each other, on those threads where the long, detailed, and bitter battles were taking place.

You should know very well how wide ranging, and numerous the flaws of Mitt Romney are, we have sure tried to educate you on them.

Why? Its true - I don’t care who the heck runs against obaa - they have my vote.

Spongebob/Tickle Me Elmo has my vote over Obama in 2012.

My first vote is Sarah - but if for some reason she does not win the primary - I am not stayng home.

the stakes are too large - especially with the SC. I cant stand Myth, but I would easily vote for the pence ryan, thune, jindle, christie, etc. if they are the nominee.
