What is the name of the soldier who was mentioned in Sarah's book who won the Congressional Medal of Honor?
I think my copy got pitched autograph and all.
Tibor Rubin?
Thanks but not the one.
The individual died. There was a misfire of an incendiary device onboard a bomber. The soldier in question clutched the burning white phosphorus flare to his chest as he carried it forward to toss out a cockpit window.
I was about to cite his example in something I was writing. But now it’s assuming the characteristics of glurge.
Just buy another one....
You can do an advanced search and narrow by conflict, branch of service, and more.
Click on Recipients, then Full Archive, then Advanced and you can narrow it down a bit.
lol. Actually they probably could do a google search.
Yep, Erwin’s the one.
We did a Canteen Post on him a little while back, and I remembered his story just as soon as Palin started recounting it in her book.
Thanks.
The description of Erwin was so similar that I thought it had to be him. In “America by Heart” I recall he dies though.
Do I have that part wrong?
Medal of Honor recipient Henry E. Erwin passed away in January 2002 at age 80. But 57 years earlier, he showed dramatically how willing he was to give up his life to save the crew of his B-29 Superfortress. His heroism resulted not only in saving his crew and earning him the ultimate military honor, but also put his story on the silver screen.
(movie:Wild Blue Yonder) Forrest Tucker
Movie, too?
I’m going to have to go rent that, now.
My pleasure, onyx.
