I always run into this one:
Does anyone know how to search FR posts containing TSA, DoD, DoJ, SoS or DHS in their titles?
Doing a keyword search may help in some cases but not all.
Example: TSA
http://www.freerepublic.com/tag/tsa/index?tab=articles
FUBO
Only article titles can be searched and words with three or fewer letters are not searched at all.
My technique is to use Google as follows with the pipe symbol as the OR operator to match any of the search terms:
site:freerepublic.com TSA|DoD|DoJ|SoS|DHS
Title search, no. Four letter minimum. Keywords - three letters will work only if someone took the time to be nice enough to put them in there.
Use Google’s ADVANCED search to review Article titles by searching (paste this into a google search box):
tsa site:freerepublic.com/tag/*/index?tab=articles
(this example looks for TSA in the title - actually on the page).
You’ll have a link to the article where the title appeared.
You’ll likely need to search for each search acronym separately.
Google search for:
I'll go with startingpage and use your technique.
site:freerepublic.com TSA|DoD|DoJ|SoS|DHS
I second the use of Google to find FR posts that you are interested in locating
Sometimes I’ll just remember a phrase related to a post and find the post I’m looking for.
http://www.google.com/search?q=free+republic+hit+it+Lazamataz
about 12,200 results (0.37 seconds)
Yep, that is exactly how I look for an article.
All of our posts seem searchable using Google.
Example:
Google Search:
“FreeRepublicScreenName” “topic/phrase” “freerepublic.com”
Use all or part of the above suggestion.
If you put the search in quotes it will look literally for that result.
You're most welcome, glad to be of some service.
I'll go with startingpage and use your technique.
If it doesn't work properly, I'll gladly refund every single dollar you sent me! :-) :-) :-)
OMG... Lolz. 12,000 hits. Now in fairness, have you ever paged back in the search results when google tells you there’s xx,xxx, xxx hits? After a few dozen pages, (”I admit to doing this”, he said, looking at his shoes), google will truncate the results count and inform you most of the page counts are redundant.
In other words... (For your Laz search, after 5 pages...)
“In order to show you the most relevant results, we have omitted some entries very similar to the 43 already displayed.
If you like, you can repeat the search with the omitted results included.”
allintitle: TSA|DoD|DoJ|SoS|DHS site:freerepublic.comOnce Google returns its results, you can go into 'advanced search' and narrow it down to articles that were posted in the past day, or past week, month or year.
So, did anything work - or are you still lost?
I’m using Google Advanced search with this syntax:
allintitle: TSA|DoD|DoJ|SoS|DHS site:freerepublic.com
Thanks everyone,
BobP
