Sorry to hear it. I’ve only read a few of her books, because they’re a bit too young adult for me. But they are well written. A couple of my granddaughters are fans of hers.

And I would agree that the anime movie version of Howl’s Moving Castle is well worth seeing.

Never heard of her either but this makes three folks in a week. Hopefully that will be it for awhile. Prayers to her soul and her family.

I'd never heard of her, either. I'd seen the movie, but didn't know who wrote the story on which it was based.

In reading her obit, it mentions that she considered herself an atheist from the age of ten. It's interesting that at the age of five, she had been sent away from London, because of the bombings, and didn't return til she was almost 10. I'm sure that played havoc with her psyche, not being grounded anywhere. After her return, she and her sister were apparently largely neglected when their parents opened an 'educational center'. Since she was basically ignored by her parents, which meant probably no faith instruction, and coming on the heels of World War II, which left all of England in a spiritual vacuum, that left a huge space in her life to be filled with something other than Christianity.

Much of her literature seems to have been based on 'witchcraft', so she might have been influenced by 'Wicca', the modern practice of which seems to have mostly come from England, with the founders trying to claim that it was really a continuation of an old pagan religion. That has been shown to be incorrect, but many still refer to the 'Old Religion', especially in the Celtic lands. I'm sure there were some pagan beliefs, but I believe Wicca is its own practice, though it may borrow some of its notions from the old ways.

My Grand Daughter is receiving her First Communion in May, while the Grandfathers look on in disgust at this poppish ceremony, if she was not such a lovely girl our Protestant antecedents would have cast her in to the darkness.
