The REAL Differences Between Coke And Pepsi People

You probably can't describe the difference between Coke and Pepsi. Perhaps one cola seems sweeter, but you couldn't certainly distinguish them in a taste test. Yet you know without a doubt which one you like more.

The fierce brand loyalties of Coke vs. Pepsi are a marvel of American marketing.

Slightly older, Coca-Cola was always the dominant brand.

Pepsi gained market share in the middle of the century with a series of ad campaigns. In 1975 the first Pepsi Challenge claimed that people preferred Pepsi in a blind taste test. The brand was also marketed as the soda of the new generation, with celebrity spokespeople like Michael Jackson.

Today America's preference is firmly divided by demographics, according to research by Hunch.com. Surprisingly there's a big divide based on wealth and education.

• Coke drinkers are more likely to have graduated college. They also tend to speak more than one language.

• Pepsi fans are less likely to have attended college or speak more than one language.

• Coke people are classy eaters. They're big sushi fans and they've probably tried caviar.

• Pepsi people prefer classic American snacks, like Cheese Whiz and Spam.

• Coke drinkers read the New York Times.

• Pepsi people prefer USA Today.

• Coke drinks consider themselves well traveled. They're also more likely to own a passport.

• There's a good chance that a Pepsi drinker hasn't been on vacation in over 6 months.

• Coke drinkers will show up early.

• Pepsi people will show up on time or late.

• If you prefer Coca Cola, you've probably been to an art gallery.

Everyone of my Coke drinkers have trouble getting to work on time. If I drink either of those, it will be Pepsi. I've been late to work twice in my 38 years.

That reminds me of one of the grossest food things I’ve seen- milk and Pepsi. I had a boy friend from Texas that mixed one and I thought I was going to throw up on the spot. I’m not a wuss though, so I tasted it. It wasn’t awful. That was a Texas thing, too.

I gave up on Coke when they switched to New Coke. A couple years ago, my husband brought me a coke from Germany made with sugar. It was awesome!

I never liked Pepsi, either. I only tasted the milk and Pepsi. Regarding food, I was taught to try everything at least once.

Only Communists would drink Pepsi and Jack, I have this from my very distant cousin in Mississippi. I like mine on the rocks, Jack that is, imitation Bourbon.

I say total BS. Probably the biggest factor in what you like is what you could most likely drink as a kid. Around where I live, Pepsi, is the most previlant brand so it’s not surprising that people around here prefer Pepsi over Coke.

I prefer Pepsi over Coke, but Mt. Dew over all others. That being said, I’ll drink Coke or Dr. Pepper or Mr. Pibb or Root Beer if Mt. Dew isn’t available. Mellow Yellow, to me, doesn’t cut it. Also, I don’t like the clear sodas like Sprite or 7up, but then I think that is due to the fact that I got those when I was sick.

I thought the list in the article was just being snobbish. The one thing which stood out to me was the one about not having taken a vacation in 6 months. I feel fortunate to take one vacation a year. There have been many years where I did what is called a staycation...I stayed around home and got caught up on sleep and house chores.
