All three of our Blackberry Verizon phones stopped working this weekend. Seems their batteries died and would not recharge. Wife's, daughter and mine all stopped.
Anyone else have a problem? Possible virus? Had to upgrade phones, go the iPhones.
Planned obsolesence by Verizon?
My husbands Verizon LG Touch of some kind died yesterday.
He, too, replaced it with an Iphone.
Nah, just pilot cyber attacks checking out the malware to be used against the Blackberry-In-Chief...
>>>Had to upgrade phones, go the iPhones.
Enjoy. And when iOS5 comes out in the fall, enjoy more :)
Maybe the charger is the problem?

I’ve heard that the Blackberry is still VERY popular for people who consider business use as very important.
When it comes to phones, I’ve seen the iPhone as a sports car and the Blackberry as a pickup truck. Each excels at what it’s made for. If my pickup truck broke, I might get a different brand of truck, but I wouldn’t replace it with a Porsche unless my needs changed.
Pickup truck? There’s an app for that...
Well put :-) My husband and I run a technology business. I stick to my Blackberry because it works reliably and he sticks to his Android so he has something to complain about. I always get my e-mails and my contacts don’t disappear and my calendar is up-to-date, etc. Oh, and I don’t have to worry about malware (at least not yet).
I agree, the Blackberry is more than 10 years old and is mature technology. iPhones and Androids are cool technology, but no where near as reliable.
If the phones were purchased at the same time, it could simply be a battery issue. Mine did the same thing awhile back, battery replacement fixed it as well as greatly extended battery life. Apparently a quantum improvement in the battery itself.
I heard of a software glitch with Blackberrys a month or so ago, but the battery was not among the symptoms.
I think all phones, pc’s, media players, etc are manufactured/designed to encourage you to replace often. Otherwise there is no incentive to buy new.
Maybe you had a power spike in your house wiring while all 3 devices were plugged in?
Maybe they all received a software update that “broke” them? This would presumably affect many people.
I’m sure there are online forums for these phones and provider. You should check those for people who might have had the same problem.
Would you consider returning the iPhones if you solved this this mystery? If not, enjoy your new phones!
I did have that problem.
In my case, all I had to do was pop the battery out and pop it back in. For some reason, my phone went into some sort of cycle of not recognizing the battery.
Works fine now.
Which brings up the possibility of a power blip/surge which might have fried the batteries if they were all recharging at the time.
not really related — but, I had my Motorola Droid die on it’s “very last day of warranty”, I think these devices are indeed smart phones. Verizon gave me a replacement too.
I have the BB and still use it to respond here on FR, and it’s my fave. To each his own. It’s akin to me still using WIN XP SP3, instead of Win 7. I prefer WIN XP.

I still use XP. My wife’s old laptop used vista and I hated it. Her new one uses 7 and I love it. But I use whatever is cheepest.
My non-internet recording studio machine still uses Windows 2000. It works great, but all I use it for is Sonar, winamp and Microsoft office (off the grid copy). It’s a Pentium III.
Solar flare?

My daughter has been having minor issues with the Blackberry as well...any excuse for asking me for a new Iphone...
I had the same problem with my Blackberry. They sent me another one and it’s working so far. Plan to trade it in come fall for the OS5 iPhone
The most common thing I know that will bring down a functioning cell phone is battery failure. Years ago I would always buy extra batteries for my cell so I could ‘pop in a freshie’ when my battery died. When the battery would no longer hold a charge, a common occurance, I would replace it. However, like printers and their inks, all cell phones apparently have a unique, expensive replacement battery so this is no longer a cost effective strategy. If there were some standardization of batteries, then we could buy cheaper aftermarket replacements.
ughhhh.....buy new batteries maybe???
