Alligator Eats Dog in Front of Owner

Huge gator snatches dog and eats it in front of its owner

An 8-foot-10-inch alligator attacked and killed a weimariner dog in suburban Broward County earlier this month as the dog's owner watched in horror, wildlife officials said.

On June 9, Beatrisz Duque was walking her two dogs, one with a leash and the other without, near a lake on Hiatus Road in Plantation.

Her weimariner walked down the canal bank and was snatched by the alligator, an incident report stated. The alligator resurfaced several times with the dead dog in its mouth, the report said.

Duque notified the police department who in turn contacted Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservationists.

When officials arrived, Duque was inside of her home grieving. Her daughter stayed outside to answer questions. Duque still couldn't talk about the incident Friday and cried when asked about what happened to her dog over the phone.

The trapper who arrived at the scene used a fishing pole and snatch hook to capture the alligator. It was later killed, according to Florida Fish and Wildlife.

NYC was built on a swamp. Some parts of the city like CoOp City [the residents made it a *swamp* the moment they moved in] in the Bronx were.

There was quicksand in the Times Square area. In 1904, the Hotel Darlington was being constructed on West 46th between 5th and 6th Avenues and it collapsed killing 25 workers because it was partially built on quicksand. The owner of the Hotel Patterson on the 47th St side of the block had quicksand trouble when building his hotel and had to go down 30 feet efore they hit bedrock.

I always walk my alligator on a leash, so those pesky pitts don't get him.

Should have let them go extinct when we had the chance but NOOOO - the environazis stepped in instead. How many kids are going to die from these things before we get rid of them?

I’d declare open season on alligators. Let people do what they will with them - I’m not aware that they serve any particularly useful function other than that of becoming wallets. Do they keep any other species in check (besides dogs that is?)

From an interview w/ Try. Like a lot a captains/fishermen, he is superstitious: ‘On his signature striped polo shirt:

“It is my lucky shirt, and I had about seven or eight of ‘em and I’m down to about three now. I’m trying to find me some new ones, and the wife can’t find none that’s exactly the same. So, ah, I don’t know what I’m gonna do in the future. … I need to find me some new ones and we’ve been looking, and they are hard to find exactly like that. But it is my lucky shirt. That’s why I catch all those big ones—I always wear that shirt.”’

[Sounds like a business opportunity here, folks!]

Nope, I like Florida as close to the way God made it as possible.

No one is forcing anyone else to live here, you can always get an apartment overlooking Central Park.

There is a legal question here. If the dog was illegally off the leash, should the gator have been prosecuted and then executed.

The are lots of precedents always used by insurers to defend clients that run over dogs. If the dog was running astray, it was in violation and the dog’s owner is liable, not the driver.

The owner is liable, not the gator. The gator was killed in vain.

Anybody who allows their dog to walk within 20 feed of a lake or canal in Florida is an idiot. The dog doesn’t know any better. The gator is just doing what’s natural. You expect the pet owner to to be more intelligent than the dog or gator.

That thing would be wallets, a brief case and a couple of pairs of shoes.

Don't forget sauce piquant, gumbo, and fried gator tail.

This is my backyard. The water levels are so low, the gators are swimming below the gates, right from the Everglades.
