Sicilians, meanwhile, were quick to blame the volcano after thousands noticed that their clocks were running 15 minutes fast. The fast forward time keeping has affected a wide spectrum of digital clocks and watches - from computers through to alarm clocks. It was spotted when large numbers of locals started turning up for work early, and a Facebook page was organised for those involved to compare notes

Oddity ping.
What’n’ell would make MANY digital clocks run faster?
A lot of digital clocks are synchronized based on the frequency of the electrical grid. It the eruption knocked that out if wack it could mess up clocks.
Back to the future?
Perhaps digital clocks are the natural prey of volcanic eruptions?
It could happen. :)
Can’t they just turn back the clocks and regain the 15 minutes? /s
>>>A lot of digital clocks are synchronized based on the frequency of the electrical grid. It the eruption knocked that out if wack it could mess up clocks.
Explain the watches running fast also mentioned in the article...

Like tornados prey on trailer parks :)
<speculation>
For that to happen, the grid would have to have been operating at higher than its normal frequency. Assuming they use 50 Hz power and the grid running at 55 Hz, the clocks would run 10% fast. To gain 15 minutes, the grid would have to have been running that fast for over two hours (actually, 150 minutes). (I'd think that some alarm at the power stations would have been going off for that entire time.)
</speculation>
The volcano obviously bent space-time in the vicinity.
Yeah, that’s the ticket!
I just noticed that digital watches were affected as well. I have no idea how that could, in any way possible, be related to the grid.
Actually a lot of clocks and watches use a quartz crystal to keep time:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Quartz_watch
maybe the magnetic fields or some other interference is messing up the frequency the crystals vibrate?
Imagine Europeans showing up for work early
Sicilians are pissed, it caused them to suddenly start showing up on time to all their appointments.

Maybe we should have a volcano put in Washington. That would keep Ø from runnig habitually late for meetings and events.
Magnetism...?
The Local Don was pissed.
Now we know what happened to the FR posting time indicator.

It’s not that. The jump affects even digital wrist watches and other battery operated items. Plus, it’s a constant daily 15 to 20 minutes.
Classic missing time — they were abducted by aliens.
I just hope they didn’t tell the people with normal timelines what was going to happen in the future. That would have been rude.

Those are some adorable kitties.
I knew someone would eventually say it. It was my first thought.
"Imagine Europeans noticing the f'ing time".

Probably nothing to do with ET’s, this time.
Though given the interesting events in this era . . . God only may truly know.
I now believe that this story is a hoax.

Did you check with ATS?
They have the most ruthlessly thorough pile of ferrets I know of. Seems like I saw something about that a week or 3 ago on there—may have been the same thing you’ve been finding. Maybe not.
Seems to me there were some different features in the items on ATS about it. And, there were some ATSers from the region in Italy purportedly involved. IIRC.
I don’t recall any connection with Mt Etna at the time, though. IIRC, they were at a complete loss as to how to explain the clocks changing.
There may have been some speculations about cosmic rays; ray weapons experiments; time differential experiments or attacks or cosmic something or others . . . no one seemed to have any explanation that was satisfying.
I will take a look. Thanks!
It takes one to know one.
What is ATS?
It’s the other best source of alternative non-MSM news.
It’s opposite FR in some respects—was founded in the UK and is rife with atheist/agnostic liberals—though there is a significant Christian contingent holding forth somewhat.
There’s a lot of wild stuff on there. However, given so many atheist/agnostic fierce SUPER RATIONALISTS who don’t believe anything’s real unless the RELIGION OF PSEUDO-SCIENCE HAS VETTED IT—they have a compulsive habit like the naysayers on FR—of shredding everything possible.
They are more likely to call something a hoax that’s not than to miss uncovering a hoax.
