I don't mean this as derogatory or to start a negative debate but there is something I have noticed over the last year and I am more curious than anything.

In my area I have noticed an abundance increase in the black culture. When I go to Pizza parlors, Whole Foods, Trader Joe's, Lowes, Ruby Tuesdays,Pei Wei, Furniture stores, etc. We live about 20 miles outside of Philadelphia and until two years ago you would see very, very few black people at any of these places now it is about 1/3 or more. Now sporting Mercedes', Lexus' and Hummers.

Like I said, I am more curious than anything and wondering why (all of the sudden)....more curious than anything. Anyone know? Like i said i am more perplexed than anything...

Your second reason has me intrigued and this would be my guess. There were a few sound clips with black woman saying “now I don’t have to worry about mortgage and car payments..” and another very popular sound clip where a woman claims she is getting “free cash” and that is why she voted for Obama.

If this is the case then I my money back. However, if it is simply people working hard and getting out more, then I tip my hat.

People don’t realize that there is a growing black middle class. As more blacks acquire advanced education, they have the resources to move into suburban areas and buy upscale cars and nice houses.

In addition, buying a fancy car has a bit more caché in the black community than in the general white population. Oh, of course everybody likes to have a beautiful car—it’s a mobile advertisement of your success—but some studies show that in groups that are just beginning to acquire money, like the black middle class, more emphasis is placed on buying new clothes and cars than on housing.

Here in Newport News, VA, I have seen the opposite. The black culture was on the rise in the ‘90s and 2000s, but now it is reversing course and becoming more segregated again.

Another case of black families leaving the cities is in Dallas, Texas. Black families are leaving because the schools are becoming more and more Mexican. Classes are taught in Spanish.

My old high school went from about 3/4 white and 1/4 other races is now 80% hispanic. 1/2 of the classes are taught in Spanish. The graduation rate at that school is 22%.
The parents who want their kids to get an education left for the burbs or home school.

Don’t you know you can’t discuss race in America without automatically being a racist, if you are white?

Where have you been? :)

In my experience, blacks are moving (for short periods) into historically white hoods. And by short periods, I mean very short.

I frequent a certain movie theater. It's in a ritzy neighborhood of NYC. No minorities live there. None. Years ago, nobody really went to this theater. At least not to the movies I'd go there to see. Recently, I have noticed minorities traveling down to this theater. The same thing may be happening to your shopping centers. They are more mobile and they are traveling out to better stores.

Now, I don't really care who sits in a movie theater with me. The thing is, THEY WILL NOT STOP TALKING THROUGH THE ENTIRE MOVIE! I, unlike other patrons, will turn around and shush them. But then again, I carry.

I have noticed that blacks love new developments and McMansions and not older houses. The best neighborhoods in my town are older and well established along the James River, which is probably why I haven’t seen it. The middle class blacks tend to move to the McMansions in Yorktown and Williamsburg when leaving the inner city. I don’t think there is a single black family in my neighborhood or any surrounding neighborhoods, not even renting.

Well, I was going to stay out of this one....just because it looked like it could go south quickly. However, when I read your comment about Section 8 recipients....I don't know if I'd use the term invading (though I do understand why you did)...but this is something that is happening in the Phoenix metro area. I mention it, because it does explain how a certain area...mainly blue collar/lower middle class traditionally white areas...gains a great deal of minority residents in a short period of time.

There is a town called Maricopa about 30 miles south of Phx. It is an ex-urb. When the dopey real estate market was on fire...This little patch of desert was developed to the HILT. Pretty much in the middle of nowhere...1 road in and out—brand new, poorly constructed, but fancy looking LARGE houses on tiny lots. I'm sure most of you have seen these bizarre little towns pop up outside a large metro area.

I checked out the area because the ratty NY Times did a hatchet job on it, a story about how horrid these exurbs are. So, I took the 1 hour plus drive from my house in NE Scottsdale to give it a look and have lunch. It was as I expected, nice people, tons of kids, odd fake-fancy subdivisions...ALL WHITE. This was 3 years ago...the end of the boom.

I recently went back, just driving through from a visit to Tucson...kind of went out of my way to check it out. It is not all white now. I'd say (and I did a bit of looking to get an idea) that over 20% is now black. I could be off...I could be mistaken...this was just observation. Driving through the sub divisions there were plenty of abandoned houses with old Forclosure/Bank Owned signs in their neglected yards. I was so interested, I asked a friend of mine who is in real estate. She explained that this was a direct result of the gvt’s Section 8 program.

Sometimes things just are. Section 8 housing usually really screws up an area. The people are usually not good at keeping the property up. Black or white, recipients of Section 8, are not exactly what you are hoping for in your area.

Sheriff Joe country!
I've lived in a suburb of Rochester, NY for over 40 years, which has probably been 97% white for most of that time.
The "demographics" have changed drastically in the last 5 to 7 years and not coincidentally, an increase in neighborhood crime, trouble in schools, police calls to the mall, flash mobs etc.
The problem is not a color issue - it's a cultural issue. No matter where they live, they still live by their "inner-city values." NOT welcome.

Based on no data -

One societal change is the drop in housing prices.

Many smart folks may have taken this as an opportunity to leave black neighborhoods -

Second possibility - all it takes is a few new developments, or section 8 rulings, or whatever - to bring a lot of different people to a region.

I would love to see demographics on Hummer sales - rich libtards are the only ones I know with them.

Oh - one other thing - “fancy cars” - you know - after about 50,000 miles - market treats them like used cars. Do a Craigslist search on “BMW 540” - awesome/world beater car. 8 years old = $8K used car. Considering Hummer mileage - they might be free. Or - Range Rover - is awesomely cheap - compared to list.

I don’t care where blacks choose to live but if some think they’re going to bring that ghetto culture, out of the ghetto, they have a lot to learn.

And yes that includes that jive turkey playing rap music in the White House.

Welcome to western civilization. Now behave.

A couple other posters already mentioned it but, yeah, it’s probably section 8 subsidized housing residents. There are a lot of vacant homes in the suburban areas, and we are going to see more and more of them rented out to section 8 tenants, so that the banks can get the government to pay the mortgage.

There is also “black flight”, like one poster said, but usually they are moving into “upper class” black communities and not into mainly white ones. At least, that’s the way it works where I live. I am also leaning towards them being section 8 tenants because you mentioned them driving Hummers and Lexuses. In my experience, about 80% of black subsidized housing residents drive very expensive cars, because they take advantage of loopholes in the system, like not counting the value of a personal automobile when calculating household assets.

Agreed. And when you're driving through even really nice section 8 housing like Baltimore has and you see the luxury cars, better than yours, it'll make you angry.

Yeah. Every day. (But I'm a cop so don't think for a second that we have relaxed our archaic, ridiculous, stupid gun laws for the 'regular citizen.')

The only ones who carry here are cops and criminals. And a few rich people with access.
