Two-year-old pitbull terrier shot after charging at police Husband finds Darla Napora's body drenched in blood Victim suffered dozens of bites to her body and face

A pregnant woman was found by her husband in her home mauled to death by one of their pet pit bull terriers.

Darla Napora, 32, was bitten dozens of times and found covered in blood outstretched on their living room floor in Pacifica, California.

Police say the two-year-old unneutered pit bull believed to be responsible was hovering around the woman, who had major injuries to her upper body and face. When they arrived, they found the victim laying in her own front living room; she was not breathing, unresponsive and had major trauma to her upper body,' said Pacifica Police Captain Dave Bretini.

'The husband stated that when he got home, at about noon, he found his wife with their pit bull hovering over her.' Police shot the blood covered pit bull terrier, similar to the one pictured, dead as it tried to escape from the back garden whilst officers conducted their investigation

Police shot the blood covered animal dead as it tried to escape from the back garden whilst officers conducted their investigation.

'The last thing we wanted to happen was for the dog to get out and start attacking bystanders or be loose in the neighborhood,' Bertini said.

'So as soon as the dog got out of the backyard, the decision was immediately made to put that dog down and that's why the dog was shot three times by two officers on scene.'

Neighbour Tom Lujan believes pit bulls are dangerous: 'I wouldn't have one, and I wouldn't want my family around one,' he said.

" The Napora's next door neighbour surprisingly said the dogs had always been well behaved. We shared a fence with them and if our dogs were barking at each other she'd call them off and they'd back off. They responded very well.'

For Greg Napora the tragic attack came out of the blue as they had had the dog since it was a puppy.

Police said there were no prior problems at the household and no reason to expect the dog attack."

The usual pit bull horror story.

“it was always such a sweet dog.”

It’s not the breed, it’s the owners. This could just as easily have been a golden retriever.

Reminds me of all the newspaper stories about mob hits in South Philly. "He [reputed mob hitman] was such a good neighbor!"

things that were bred to kill, kill. I haven’t read down the posts as yet but I’m willing to bet there are going to be a lot of “ we have pit bulls and they would never hurt a fly”. The husband here, should be put in jail and fined for exposing his family to a death dog.

The dogs are legal so no reason to put him in jail. Of course, no prison sentence would come close to the punishment he faces for the rest of his life. His wife and child are dead.

Knew a couple who had something similar happen - fortunately the husband was home. They raised the pit bull from a pup and spouted the usual it’s-the-owner-not-the-breed crap. The dog attacked the wife; the husband shot it. Even in death, the dog’s jaws remained clamped to the woman’s arm and the fire dept. had to pry the dog’s jaws apart.

Pit bulls are ticking time bombs.

Let me guess, a pitbull? The libertarian in me struggles with the fact that these things are a clear and present danger to human beings.

Not to me they aren’t. I discipline dogs. If I ever do get a pitbull, it will either be perfectly behaved or dead.

Not the breed but the owners? This is b.s. The pattern of attacks couldnt be clearer. Golden Retrievers do not maul women and children with regularity. Pit Bulls do as countless cases/stories over the years show. This is an evil breed of animal that should be outlawed. Wake up, abandon mindless advocacy and become rational/logical.

Can you imagine that guy, having to explain to everyone that his wife and baby were killed by a pit bull, that HE so STUPIDLY let stay in the house?

Were they gonna keep the pit bull around after the baby arrived?

Astounding.

This is completely off topic, but who wrote this headline?

The woman died after being mauled to death? Really?

She died after she was dead?

So will you discipline him after he rips a child’s face off?

Not to mention, that statistics show more people are bitten every year by parakeets and hamsters.

Yes, I’ve read many accounts on http://www.dogsbite.org/
that detail an animal acting normally suddenly attacking a child or an adult by seizing the lower jaw and ripping away at it. Even the home page of that URL I provided features photos of maimed kids. There are also many accounts of adults which describe the horror - the dog jumping up and latching on to their lower jaw and just NOT letting go but instead, the dog begins to thrash its head from side to side like a shark. No time for discipline then!

what are ya? retarded? or just dog ignorant? Dogs display bad behavior and poor discipline WAY before they ever rip into anyone face or limbs.
