Gen X stymied by baby boomers hanging on to jobs

NEW YORK -- In Tiffany Spaulding's 12 years in the pharmaceutical industry, she has worked for three companies, two of which no longer exist, and relocated to four states.

Now 39 and living in Brookfield, Conn., she hasn't had a promotion in five years and says she sees no chance to advance, stuck behind a wall of baby boomers. She would quit and turn her hobby of jewelry design into a business, she says, if not for the home and school loans that eat up half her salary.

Spaulding, according to a new report, is a typical member of the relatively small group called Generation X, 46 million Americans born between 1965 and 1978: They're ambitious, squeezed by debt and frustrated by people who aren't retiring on schedule. More than a third hope to leave their jobs in three years, a survey of more than 1,100 members of Generation X by the Center for Work-Life Policy found.

I love how these kind of articles always bring the cranky fogies out of the woodwork to carp about how youngsters are no good these days... completely forgetting that it was their own generation that ushered in so many monstrosities in culture and politics in the 60’s and 70’s. If Gen Xers can at least blame poor parenting for their entitled attitude, who do Baby Boomers have to blame for their life-long selfishness?

Every generation has one ahead of them blocking the meteoric rise they think they deserve and one behind them wishing they’d die or go away.

Reminds me of the service ditty:
"Old soldiers never die,
The young ones wish they would."

Rest of headline: "...because liberal jerkwads in the federal goverment have so effed things up that there is no longer a growing economy with jobs for all."

Time for Carousel ...

The only downside to this Beverly Hills society run amok is that life is terminated at thirty years of age. When the Life Clock (a crystal imbedded into the palm of each citizen’s hand at birth) begins blinking red, the poor sod has ten days in which they can seek Life Renewal in the fiery ritual of Carousel.

A note of advice to Tiff:

1. Pursue your jewelry hobby.
2. Just keep in mind that your biggest sellers may be what you consider to be cheesy.
3. Artisans frequently do massive amounts of cheesy stuff in order to pay for and to provide time for the stuff that they really like to do. Photogs do yearbooks and wedding photography, corporate events, commercial artists do ads for the newest taco shop on the local strip. Just the way it is...
4. Sell it through Facebook.

You got it easy kid, take advantage of it.

Freaking A. Boomers complain about the younger generations debt? Look in the mirror fools. Debt AND no retirement cuz ya spent it all, and now they feel entitled to have their job for life.

The hypocrisy is so thick I could build a house on it.

Boomers have to keep working because they can’t afford to retire.

Yep - and if we all retired and started collecting our Social Security, they would still be mad because of our "bleeding the system dry". Most of us boomers grew up hearing stories of the Depression and had hard working, moral folks giving us guidance as we grew up - too many associate us all with the commie/hippie dweebs...
