A new faith coalition out in Cleveland, Ohio, raises some interesting questions about the intermingling of organized religion and leftist politics.
The founding of the Greater Cleveland Congregations (GCC), a group that describes itself as “a non-partisan coalition of faith communities and partner organizations in Cuyahoga County working together to build power for social justice,” claims that its focus is uniting the masses to improve local neighborhoods.
While many would see this as a worthy endeavor, others — mainly those with fears about the use of faith to progress the liberal agenda — are questioning the GCC’s motivations.
The central underpinning of the group’s organizational structure is that it brings together religious leaders from multiple faiths. In encouraging these influential individuals to come on board with the GCC’s mission, thousands of individuals within their congregations have now joined in to answer the group’s call to arms. The issues that the organization has decided to tackle are not all that surprising — education, jobs, health care, criminal justice and sustainable food.
As of June, nearly 40 area churches, synagogues and mosques had joined in the coalition.

Interestingly, the GCC is part of The Industrial Areas Foundation (IAF), an infamous ultra-left group that was founded back in 1940 by the father of community organizing, Saul Alinsky. IAF, which is still very active today, is known for using religion as an adhesive force to bring individuals together in support of Democratic principles and candidates.

Churches are naturally cohesive, as congregants are bound together by their shared faith. Additionally, most of the nation’s most prominent faith systems advocate helping those in need — a central tenet of the social justice mantra.

Watch your theology carefully
In a word, yes. The left, communist, socialist and homosexuals have come into the church and are attempting, and in many, many cases, they have success in doing it. Many so called “churches” now openly accept homosexuals. There are homosexual pastors in churches. Funny, they must tear out all those verses in the Bible that says it is an abomination before God, but what the heck is a few words here and there telling them they are wrong. They just ignore those.
That's all I need to know. If this organization has tax exempt status then it should be revoked immediately

'Social justice' is revenge. In all the decades sitting in the pew, I was never taught revenge as a matter of faith.

Not really.
Except for a few hot button social issues, “the Church” is a pretty consistent force for socialization. The only question is under who’s auspices such socialization is to take place.
Nowadays, “the Church” knows its place and maintains a symbiotic realtionship with govenrment.
YET ANOTHER front group of Progressives, who will get Federal Taxpayer money to pocket, and to promote the wealth-redistribution agenda.

I must have been born conservative, I saw signs of infiltration back in the 50s when I was still in my teens.
I clearly recall the pastor calling out for funds to buid field hospitals for the Viet Cong and to ban handguns from the pulpit of Grace Methodist Church here in St. Augustine.
It's been allowed to go on for too long, too many have been indoctrinated.
Form new congregations and take care who you accept! I know what that sounds like but I see no other way.
I think that is a symptom rather than the disease. If the church would take more of a stand against the things that are contrary to biblical Christian orthodoxy then things would turn around. The problem is that Liberal theology tends to ignore scriptures that don't fit their Liberal worldview (Jer 22:13, Gen:19, and of course ECL10:2) just like the "Progressives" have ignored (Or outright lied about) historical events that don't fit into their template of what "should" have happened. Just ask the nearest public school graduate about the following and you will get nothing but a blank stare.
The Great Molasses Flood, The Black Tom Explosion, The Pumpkin Papers, The Storm that Kept the British out of Washington, The establishment of labor unions to exclude certain races from working in certain industries, Venona, Operation Keelhaul, And the tremendous failure that was the Marshal Plan.
It all comes down to a question of worldview.
Many years ago I was deep into what was going on in the churches especially my church, Lutheran. I was very active in church matters to the point of being the church’s congregation lay president. I gave talks on Sundays and attended state synod meetings as a member of our lay delegation. There was turmoil in the church statewide because of ‘social justice’ issues. An influx of new pastors from prestigious university divinity schools kept stirring the ‘social justice’ pot. At one very exhausting church meeting I led the board members in voting to not authorizing the pastor to commit our congregation to a resolution supporting a particular social issue. The pastor and I played on the church softball team together. Great teammates but for that one issue. Several years later with a move to another area church I gave up on being my own person as a member of the church as a whole. I look at what is going on now in the Lutheran church and I believe my choice to opt out was good for my personal and family spiritual well being.
