Bold farmers in Indonesia routinely ignore orders to evacuate the slopes of live volcanoes, but those living on Tambora took no chances when history's deadliest mountain rumbled ominously this month.

Villagers like Hasanuddin Sanusi have heard since they were young how the mountain they call home once blew apart in the largest eruption ever recorded — an 1815 event widely forgotten outside their region — killing 90,000 people and blackening skies on the other side of the globe.

Actually, we are still in an Ice Age albeit an Interglacial Warm Period of the current Ice Age. The Glowbull Warming fantatics never mention this nor do they mention that it is a fact that the glaciers will once again grow - We just do not know when.

"This hypotheses is based on the mitochondria in the ovum (sperm have no mitochondria), hence a method of tracking through the female line. But I'll have to look that up."

Correct.

I've had my DNA checked and my mtDNA is 'V' and my yDNA is R1b. The 'V' is rare and indicates that I'm related to the Sami (reindeer herders) of the Kola peninsular and the R1b (my particular kind), indicates that I'm Norweigen.

My dad's mother (Mrs Smith) is related to Cheddar Man.

The world's deadliest volcano is either Yellowstone or Toba.

The good news is that even some of the major bad volcanoes can have small eruptions that do not threaten civilizations. Tambora erupted in 1967. It was minor. I think it's been too quickly for Tambora to nail us all on the level of 1815. I do not expect this to be something on the level of 1815 if for no other reason that 200 years is not a lot time in volcano time. It usually takes hundreds, if not thousands, of years between eruptions for there to be a massive eruption. Mt Pinatubo had an interval of about 2-3 thousand years between massive eruptions.

VEI 6 eruptions are rare. Pinatubo, Krakatoa, Laki (worst climate effect), Santa Maria, Novarupta (Alaska).
VEI 7 even rarer. Tambora, Possibly Baekdu mtn in 969, Taupo in 200AD, Possibly Santorini's Minoan eruption which most think was the basis of Atlantis around 2000BC.
VEI 8 eruptions have occured a handful of times in human history. Yellowstone about 600,000 years ago. Toba about 75,000 years ago. Lake Taupo around 25,000 years ago.
