NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — House Majority Leader Gerald McCormick said Thursday that he will postpone and possibly disband a special firearms task force following the arrest of its chairman, Rep. Curry Todd, on drunken driving and gun charges.

...

charges of charges of possession of a gun while under the influence

That is a new one on me, does it only apply to a car?

Yep, but I'd bet ten bucks that this cop knew who he was, watched for him to clip the yellow line with the edge of his tire in order to pull him over, and will "lose" the dash cam video.

I imagine Todd “acted stupidly”, but the cops hate these laws and likely set him up. I’d bet good money they had a plainclothes officer at a bar call in when he left so a patrol car conveniently nearby could pull him over when he allegly “weaved”.

I’m not sure bert, but I think that even if he had been on foot, if he was carrying, and found to be under the influence, they would have bagged him.

Anything is possible, he could have been set up. But if the article got the facts right, it would seem he screwed up.

traveling 60 mph in a 40 mph zone

was unsteady on his feet, failed a roadside sobriety test and refused to take a breath alcohol test

he told officers he had had(sic) consumed two drinks

He later released a statement saying he was "deeply sorry for the events of last evening,"

Don’t these politicians realize that if they’re in favor of gun rights for the citizen, the anti-gun gun grabbers are WATCHING them closely? . . and why can they not BEHAVE themselves in light of this?

The premise of the article is that since he was drunk and armed, we must do away wioth guns.
Always trust AP and the haters of the 2nd Amendment to pull that kind of propagandistic crap.

Many elected officials (of both parties) are notoriously arrogant, and think they are above the law.

Media is going to run with this, because in their pea brains this proves that only cops should have guns and citizens certainly shouldn’t be able to carry at restaurants/bars serving alcohol.

Assuming the arrest was righteous, I can only say that it is a really bad idea for an CCW holder to carry while drinking. If the booze is so important, leave the gun elsewhere.

In Minnesota, the blood alcohol limit while carrying is %.04

Which roughly translates into gargling with Listerine.

In Tennessee, it was probably just a democrat operative who had been following Todd around for days, trying to get something to call the cops in for. Democrats in Tennessee are beyond corrupt. They believe they are our overlords and cannot stand that voters are the sovereigns, for at least a year or two more.

Even if you are not a politician, a concealed carry permit is a precious thing. During the training course, the instructure warned us multiple times, alcohol + gun = no more permit.
