Re-thinking Palin's decision not to run for POTUS

Posted on 10/21/2011 9:40:59 PM PDT by se_ohio_young_conservative

I was very upset when Palin decided not to run and I still wish she would have. However, as times goes on, I have no idea that she would kick butt in Iowa, SC and other primaries. I believe she would have won the nomination. If the party then united behind her, she could have won 270 electoral votes. But here is the problem...I think Palin had doubts that certain portions of the party would unite behind her even if she had won the nomination. She knew they were hostile. I don't know if this is the exact reason she decided not to run...but it had to be a factor.

It's true. It is wrong. It is very sad. But I am convinced that Priebus and MOST of the boys at the RNC would have prefered an Obama 2nd term over a Palin presidency. The only reason I can think of is that they believed their own power and control would be gone if Palin were elected.

I was a bit harsh and upset at first..but after thinking about it more.. I think she can do a lot to change the party over the next 5-10 years by traveling to all 50 states and backing fiscal conservatives at the local state and national level.

As for our party...we can't throw the election. but we damn well better make sure that when this next election is over, we do some serious house cleaning in all levels of government. And we need to make sure that the RNC is changed from the inside or scrap it and start from scratch. This is going to take some time , but the more we overrun them when we send real conservatives to D.C. in elections, the more the walls will close in on them. We can win the election with real conservatives in the house and the senate, even if we end up with a President that is more like Richard Nixon than Ronald Reagan. (Perry, or Newt..ect)

don't forget. when we take the senate with real conservatives. The President of the United States will have them breathing down his back on issue of spending and reform.

lets be happy warriors in this election. we can beat the establishment and the Dems at the same time

I am glad that your seeing things in a different light right now. I understood how upset you were that she wasn’t going to run. I was upset too but understood why she did it. She did what was best for her family. She will do everything she can to ensure that Obama is a 1 term President(Can we get him out of the White House NOW!) She will work hard in 2012 so that we take back the Senate and get more seats in the house. Your absolutely right about the RINOS and the elitists in the GOP like Rove, they would never have allowed a Palin Presidency to take place, they would vote for Obama no doubt in my mind.
I also have no doubt those types voted for Obama in 2008, McCain threw the election and Sarah busted her ass for that man only to get screwed over in the end, its those kinds in the GOP that would have made things VERY difficult for her. She saw that and knew she could do better without having to run. She will run for President one day, she is young, she has her whole life ahead of her

Good to see you've given it issue some thought. I thought Sarah made the decision mostly because of her family, knowing how tough it would be on her kids. I'm sure, though, that the knowledge that the Republican establishment would likely not be excited about her as the nominee figured into the decision as well. Sarah DID take on the Republican establishment in Alaska, and win, but that was a smaller venue, and she could reach all the voters in a relatively short period of time.

I hope that Sarah will compete in a Presidential election in the future, but in the meantime, she's content to help other conservatives get elected.

>>> I believe she would have won the nomination.

Not a chance.

By 72 percent to 24 percent, Republicans and Republican-leaning independents do not want Palin to run for president in 2012. Even among tea party supporters - a group that likes Palin - 68 percent do not want her to run.

It is a formality now. It is not really worth debating. I will always until the day I die believe that most of those polls were media generated bullshit that would not have carried over to the ballot box if she entered the race.

She said she would run if no one else espoused clear Conservative thought....I paraphrase, and along came Herman.

We have hardly heard from or seen articles about Palin since she announced she wasn’t running, whereas this place was Palin Central before she announced she was not going to be a candidate. This speaks to the power of her celebrity.

Her true value, though, is when the MSM aren’t around, and she’s doing the hard, boring work of party-building.

Just because we like someone doesn’t mean he or she could or should be president. Someone who’s great at something won’t necessarily be great at everything. I think when people cool down they will see Palin, like every human being ever, had flaws alongside her qualities.

Unlike 99% of folks who run for president, though, when that is off the table, we don’t just stop thinking of her as a political entity. She can and does articulate conservative positions with a fierceness the wusses in DC simply do not have.

We need to turn the GOP into a conservative party. It is a place for the Bob Doles and John McCains now, and it shouldn’t be. Once that is remade, then we will see more true conservatives running for office.

Just as with Christine O’Donnell, when someone is no longer running (or isn’t running when we hoped they would), we cool down and see them with clear eyes. In O’Donnell’s case some of us, at least, see what a truly horrible candidate she was, and what a horrible politician she’d have been. In Palin’s case, some of us may see she is still just as talented as some thought, but her talents (as she proved in 2010) are in party-building, and that could be her true calling.

I for one am very glad you have given this some more thought. You are a valuable part of this board, and being in NE KY I was looking forward to working with you on the Palin campaign, and since that wasn’t happening, perhaps on the Cain campaign. I hope we get to meet at an event soon.
I was very dismayed at the way you felt about Sarah’s decision, and afraid you would lose hope.
We still have tons of work to do. I am signed up on the Cain site to work in the trenches, and I’ll let you know if were doing anything down here “across the river”. Please do the same. If you need any help over there, the wife and I will do what we can.

rino expect the conservatives to rally behind their rino if they win the primary, which is true because conservatives end up holding their nose and vote for them then whine about their candidates not being conservative enough

rino don’t rally behind the conservative if they win the primary. This has been proven so many times. They seek to sabotage the conservative

Good thinkin’. And if we respect Palin, we owe her the courtesy of taking her at her word, as to the reason and that “you don’t need a title or office to have an impact”.

“If the party then united behind her”

That was N*E*V*E*R going to happen. EVER. It is the same reason Herman Cain will not be allowed to win. The political ruling class will elect the other party before they elect an outsider.

Don’t believe me?

Watch what the GOP insider do to Cain. They will sabatoge his run. I have ZERO doubt about that.

Palin is in a fight to wrest control of the GOP from Washington insiders. I don’t think she will win, at least not this election cycle.

The GOP Establishment will elect Obama rather than let Herman Cain win. They will NOT relinquish control to a Washington outsider.

Dittos! How does Herman Cain succeed in proving this wrong and then succeed in becoming the next POTUS?

If she had run I would have emptied my bank accounts, walked and knocked and delivered food to any operation of her candidacy when I could.

Life moves on and I have as well.

Still LUV her. XOXOXOXOXOX!!!

The GOP establishment isn’t just going to up and quit, of course. They have too much invested.

So when I say Palin is right to focus on that job, I’m not saying it’s going to be done overnight, or even by her.

It is a long process that is going to have to be fought, though. We’ve been slouching along from election to election, getting people like Dole and McCain, and threatening not to vote if our guy doesn’t get selected, and then for some of us we end up supporting the GOP nominee, anyway, because we don’t want someone like Obama in there.

So the fight has to be taken seriously and not just be a once-every-four-years bitch fest. It has to be a priority in itself, and for a long time.

You were right to be upset, and I still am.

Palin QUIT.

Proving all her detractors, absolutely correct.

And letting down her armada of enthused, rock-rib supporters.

Palin didn’t reload. She retreated. And yes, I’m still upset.

I like Palin, but she has not matured to the point where she can handle debates with hostile press people. She is not a stupid person, is highly intelligent, right on the issues, but needs proper coaching. Thus far she has yet to received it.

The current GOP establishment needs to go. They are too comfortable with a live-and-let-live philosophy with the Democrats. The only way to really deal with those people is to fight them with the goal of totally destroying them.

I’ve said it before, the only way Obama can win is to make the election about whoever is running against him, not his miserable record. And the GOP establishment has permitted the leftist media to do just that by these farcical debates where the candidates maul each other instead of attacking Obama’s record and allowing the voters decide which anti-Obama approach is best.
