NY-18 Rep. Nita Lowey's office says it's not true she's leaving the office she won in 1988 to pave the way for a Chelsea Clinton bid for Congress.
chelsea clinton.jpgA New Rochelle blog, Talk of the Sound, ran a story this afternoon which said, in part that "Clinton has been approached by "the right people" in the New York Democratic Party, according to one source in Albany. While no decision has been made, Clinton is said to be "actively considering" a Congressional run from New York State in 2012.
UPDATE: "This is 100% false. She is not running for Congress in the 18th District or any other," said Clinton spokesman Matt McKenna.
"The plan is to identify an open seat for Clinton in or around New York City where she currently resides with her husband, Marc Mezvinsky," the blog item continues.
"While no specific district has been determined, New York City and Westchester are said to be the focus with New York's 18th District considered a strong possibility. The 18th encompasses much of Westchester County, just south of where her parents have maintained a home for the past 12 years."
Lowey spokesman Matthew Dennis told our Alison Gendar, “Congresswoman Lowey is 100% running for re-election in 2012. She is not retiring.”
One Democratic operative similarly told Gendar when asked about the Lowey/Clinton item, "News to me. They love Nita in Westchester."
nita lowey blue.jpgUpdate: I now see that Politico raised this issue about Clinton and NY-18 in a piece earlier this month, writing, "Lowey, an old family ally who represents the official Clinton home in Westchester County, turned 74 in July and two Clinton supporters suggested that Chelsea Clinton might be a natural for her seat should Lowey decide to retire in coming years." However, I, to date, have not seen any conclusive evidence that the daughter of the former president and current Secretary of State has actually committed herself to a career in politics.
Update 2 from Ken Lovett: State Democratic Party Chairman Jay Jacobs said he has not heard anything about Clinton possibly running.
"She certainly has a star quality to her," Jacobs said. "She would be a formidable candidate. She’s bright, articulate, on top of the issues. It would be exciting, but I haven't heard it."
Several Democratic elected officials -- past and current -- as well as a number of plugged-in Democratic operatives also claim to be in the dark about any possible run.
Lowey "stepped aside for Hillary once. She ain't going to do it for the kid," said one skeptical Dem.
Update 3: Our Glenn Blain spoke with Westchester Democratic Chairman Reginald LaFayette, who said he’s heard no talk of Clinton running for Congress. LaFayette fully expects Lowey to run for re-election next year.

In Clintonese, terms such as “resides” are as flexible as the meaning of “is”. Such subtlety and nuance are beyond the grasp of mere Americans.

Let us not forget that it was Nita Lowey who rolled over for Hillary Clinton when she carpetbagged her way into New York to run for the U.S. Senate.
Nita Lowey was a Congresswoman from New York who decided to run for the U.S. Senate to fill the seat of the retiring Daniel Patrick Moynihan. She was well-known and well-liked as a Congresswoman. Enter Harold Ickes, a slimeball henchman for President Bill Clinton. Somehow, in an infamous “sitdown” with Ms. Lowey, Hillary and Ickes got Ms. Lowey to step aside for Hillary. The stupid voters of New York then followed through and voted Hillary to the U.S. Senate.
Is history about to repeat itself? Remember the words of Web Hubbell, who took the dive for the Clintons and ended up imprisoned. When faced with having to protect the Clintons a second time, Hubbell said to his wife (in a taped prison phone conversation), “I guess I will have to roll over again”.
Indeed. She might be referred to as the blown up one.
Her father, Zulfikar ali Bhutto, was hung. He was the leader of Pakistan back in the 70s. If I remember right, he went through Berkeley and Oxford - which would make him a leftist elitist.
He was overthrown by Zia al Haq, a general who imposed martial law. General Zia was killed in a mysterious helicopter explosion. In the aircraft with him was the U.S. ambassador.
Nawaz Sharif was (I think) the first Pakistani to leave office upright. Everyone before left feet first at room temperature. He’s still bouncing around.

I knew it was false because Chelsea would have announced it as: “Excuse me, like can I like haave your attention? I just wanna say that I am like totally running for like Congress like OK?”

It would be a shame if Rodem-Hubble would not find a place to run. Maybe she could run in Madam Pelousy’s district.
Correct..and here’s an added tidbit. When the Clintons moved to Chappaqua in 2000, they were originally in Sue Kelley’s district. Chappaqua was at the southern end of the district..had been there for decades...all the towns, Chappaqua, Mt. Kisco, Bedford, Bedford Hills,etc, were one fairly organic area. Kelley had voted for most of the Articles of Impeachment. As a personal favor tot he Clintons, after the 2000 redistricting, it was moved into Lowey’s district.
And, after the Clintons moved to Chappaqua, they requested that Westchester County Airport(HPN) move the approach path for Runway 16/34 so as not to have low flying planes pass over their home. I believe the FAA scotched the idea due to the proximity of Chappaqua to HPN.
