Weaker sun will not delay global warming: study

LONDON (Reuters) - A weaker sun over the next 90 years is not likely to significantly delay a rise in global temperature caused by greenhouse gases, a report said Monday.

The study, by Britain's Meteorological Office and the university of Reading, found that the Sun's output would decrease up until 2100 but this would only lead to a fall in global temperatures of 0.08 degrees Celsius.

Scientists have warned that more extreme weather is likely across the globe this century as the Earth's climate warms.

The world is expected to heat up by over 2 degrees Celsius this century due to increased greenhouse gas emissions.

Current global pledges to cut carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gas emissions are not seen as sufficient to stop the planet heating up beyond 2 degrees, a threshold scientists say risks an unstable climate in which weather extremes are common.

"This research shows that the most likely change in the sun's output will not have a big impact on global temperatures or do much to slow the warming we expect from greenhouse gases," said Gareth Jones, climate change detection scientist at the Met Office.

"It's important to note this study is based on a single climate model, rather than multiple models which would capture more of the uncertainties in the climate system," he added.

During the 20th century, solar activity increased to a maximum level and recent studies have suggested this level of activity has reached, or is nearing, an end.

2011 was ninth-warmest year since 1880: NASA
http://news.yahoo.com/2011-ninth-warmest-since-1880-nasa-214423361.html

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The global average temperature last year was the ninth-warmest in the modern meteorological record, continuing a trend linked to greenhouse gases that saw nine of the 10 hottest years occurring since the year 2000, NASA scientists said on Thursday.

A separate report from the U.S. National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) said the average temperature for the United States in 2011 as the 23rd warmest year on record.

The global average surface temperature for 2011 was 0.92 degrees F (0.51 degrees C) warmer than the mid-20th century baseline temperature, researchers at NASA’s Goddard Institute for Space Studies said in a statement. The institute’s temperature record began in 1880.

The first 11 years of the new century were notably hotter than the middle and late 20th century, according to institute director James Hansen. The only year from the 20th century that was among the top 10 warmest years was 1998.

Would weaker political domination by the political left delay “manmade global warming”?

Three things in life are certain. Death, taxes, and James Hansen will say "last year was the hottest ever" every year.

This is the "Met," a totally discredited gubbermint bureaucracy. These are the same guys I believe who said five years ago that snow would be a rarity in Great Britain by now.

Has Britain's Meteorological Office ever accurately predicted the local weather five days in advance ? I didn't think so.

A weaker sun for 90 years starting now means we're looking at a second little ice age (LIA2). Dress accordingly...

In real life, the ONLY thing which acts as a quasi greenhouse gas on this planet is water vapor which is why it often appears warmer on cloudy days, look for the stinking demoKKKrats to try to outlaw water and clouds.

And if it doesn't, this "objective reporter" won't be around to eat crow anyway, so can feel free to assert any kind of rubbish she wants.

Very telling in Yahoo’s comments, almost everyone is blasting this. The public has seen through their ruse, but they still shuffle on like a bunch of zombies groaning “climate chaaaaange!”

LOL, these warmists are fanatically trying to push their bogus theory on us no matter what the evidence.

The sun could literally be on the verge of vanishing tomorrow, and the warmists would report that “disappearance of sun unlikely to reduce threat of global warming”.

I wonder if they’d care to diagnose what caused the Pleistocene and all of the other ice ages?

I note that there is a NEW era - Anthropocene - the age of AGW since 1950.

Ice is our past and our future. We nearly died out as a species in the last ice age - an eye blink ago in geological time. There were by some estimates as few as 35,000 of us at one point IIRC.

What a surprise.

Somebody whose livelihood depends on the Global Warming scam builds a model that says that the Earth will continue to warm despite the fact that the source of the fuel for the heat engine that is the Earth will supply less fuel for 90 years.

When will people start reading these doom and gloom stories with a bit more critical eye?

If you give your fire place fewer logs to burn what happens to your home?
