Weaker sun will not delay global warming: study

LONDON (Reuters) - A weaker sun over the next 90 years is not likely to significantly delay a rise in global temperature caused by greenhouse gases, a report said Monday.

The study, by Britain's Meteorological Office and the university of Reading, found that the Sun's output would decrease up until 2100 but this would only lead to a fall in global temperatures of 0.08 degrees Celsius.

Scientists have warned that more extreme weather is likely across the globe this century as the Earth's climate warms.

The world is expected to heat up by over 2 degrees Celsius this century due to increased greenhouse gas emissions.

Current global pledges to cut carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gas emissions are not seen as sufficient to stop the planet heating up beyond 2 degrees, a threshold scientists say risks an unstable climate in which weather extremes are common.

"This research shows that the most likely change in the sun's output will not have a big impact on global temperatures or do much to slow the warming we expect from greenhouse gases," said Gareth Jones, climate change detection scientist at the Met Office.

"It's important to note this study is based on a single climate model, rather than multiple models which would capture more of the uncertainties in the climate system," he added.

During the 20th century, solar activity increased to a maximum level and recent studies have suggested this level of activity has reached, or is nearing, an end.

“The study, by Britain’s Meteorological Office and the university of Reading, found that the Sun’s output would decrease up until 2100 but this would only lead to a fall in global temperatures of 0.08 degrees Celsius.”

Nearly snorted tea all over my keyboard. These geniuses are predicting a change in mean global temperatures of eight hundredths of a degree over ninety years!

This is hoot and holler laugh out loud. Their precision is dazzling.

Right. Because the Sun has nothing to do with heat.

Global cooling won't stop global warming, either.

Doesn't matter how much it cools off, we just say it's weather, not climate.

Climate is anything that "proves" what we want it to prove, and weather is anything that doesn't.

Well they are only off by about 88 years in time prediction and slightly over 100 % off in magnitude. Current global anomaly.

And the sat derived temperature at 14,000 feet (600 mb) is at an all time low (since 2002 when measurements began).

As one more measure of how completely ridiculous this is, about a week ago on FR was a thread about the University of Alabama report that the lower troposphere was actually colder now than a decade ago.

This is incredibly significant.

There can be NO global warming at ground level. Even the warmists (well the scientific warmists) understand that. If you integrate the radiative transfer equation properly, global warming HAS to occur at the lower troposphere. (The rest of the world then would heat up from convection under their model). But if the lower troposphere is getting colder, then the rest of the measurements are meaningless.

Full stop. The data are in. The theory is fully discredited by direct observation.

In their defense, it’s pretty much impossible to delay something that isn’t happening in the first place. Thanks NormsRevenge.

A colder climate is a horrible way to die. Global warming in the past has led to a flourishing of civilization.

That is if these fewmet sniffing jackals even had the data right and we were faced with global warming.

Worse, if CO2 levels are cut, he warns, food production will slow because plants grown at higher CO2 levels make larger fruit and vegetables and also use less water.

Jeepers! My skin is horribly sensitive to temperature changes of 0.08 degrees, whether F or C.

And in 2100 I'll only be 174 years old.
